Before announcing the start of the Olympiad, the Director of the University Research Center, Candidate of Psychological Sciences, Associate Professor Kamo Vardanyan introduced the participants with the Olympiad procedures.
Afterwards, the participants were greeted by the President of the Olympiad Organizing Committee, Vice Chancellor of Science and Postgraduate Education, Candidate of Legal Sciences, Associate Professor Ara Yeremyan and by the Director of the ASPU Base High-School College, Vice President of the Olympiad Organizing Committee Naira Safaryan.
The latter outlined the importance of the students’ participation in the Olympiad, and observed it to be a courageous and a triumphant step which will further encourage the new friendship with the Pedagogical University which had always been so close to the schools, pupils, and teachers.
The 1st stage of the Olympiad was arranged on the subjects of Physics and Mathematics with the participation of 145 students of natural-mathematical stream from 20 schools of the country. 103 of the students were involved in the mathematical group and 42 in physical.
The tasks were formed and presented by the members of the committee which comprised various representatives from the National Education Institute and different school of the capital city.
The participants of the Olympiad had an opportunity to personally choose the variants of their written tests. Actually, by quite an interesting coincidence all the three groups of the Physics subject selected the same variants.
The 10th grade student of the Physical-Mathematical School Hakob Hakobyan had participated in municipal and republican Olympiads several times. In fact, the famous Olympic slogan “participation is more important than the victory” is not for Hakob. He is sure that if not the first, then surly one of the other prizes will be his.
By the time the participants completed the tests, their parents received comprehensive information about the history of the University, its activities and departments presented by the Science Vice Deans of Faculties in the University’s library which is equipped with modern technologies.
The results summary and awards of the 1st stage of the Olympiad will be held at the Hall of the Faculty of Culture at 3pm on 14 May.
In addition, the 2nd stage of the Olympiad is planned to be held at the beginning of the 2012/13 academic year.
