The Scientific Library of the Pedagogical University hosted an antique books exhibition organized on the 90th anniversary of the University’s establishment and the 500th

anniversary of Armenian Printing.
The exhibition displayed 24 samples of Armenian printed works dating from 1669-1788, including the Russian language book printed in Saint Petersburg in 1795. Since 1923 these books took their places in the library of the Pedagogical University.
The opening speech of the event was made by the Director of the Scientific Library, Historian, Culture Expert, and Journalist Tigran Petrosyants. Upon greeting the guests, the latter introduced the history and chronology of the library’s creation.
Tigran Petrosyants attaches considerable importance to the event and mentions that the demonstrated antique books form a part of cultural heritage and as a value are the properties of the Pedagogical University. All those willing are able to use these books in their research aims.
Further on, the head of the Department of Library Science and Bibliography Gagik Sukiassyan presented the numerical statistics of the Armenian books printed all over the world in different ages.
During the event the Deputy Director of the National Library Rafik Ghazaryan also made his welcome speech, the latter highly praised the books’ collection of the University library and expressed his hope that such events, organized within the framework of 500th anniversary of printing will be not only of obligatory nature, but that they will also induce people to get closer to books in this era of information.
The exhibition was also visited by the Directors of university libraries in Armenian, the Governing Bodies of the Pedagogical University, the Deputy Director of the National Library Rafik Ghazaryan, the NA Deputy, University Alumni Artyusha Shahbazyan, and other representatives of the literary world.
