Minute of Silence Observed at ASPU in Memory of Fallen Soldiers
11.06.2012
The Philological Faculty of Armenian State Linguistic University (ASPU) today observed a minute of silence in remembrance of the Armenian servicemen who were killed on June 4 in Azerbaijan's subversive act along the line of contact between Armenian and Azerbaijani armed forces. The move was initiated by Yuri Davtyan, Dean of the Philological Faculty, Doctor of Philological Sciences.

In his opening remarks, Mr. Davtyan referred to the ceasefire agreement reached between Armenia and Azerbaijan in 1994. He stressed that Azeri invaders have always sustained a shameful defeat in the struggle against Armenians and they are unmatched in hatching conspiracies.

“We approve of Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan’s recent statement that the enemy will be given ‘a tough and fair’ response. The Philological Faculty deeply mourns over the loss of servicemen Zohrab Balabekyan, Hrach Sargsyan, Vardan Ohanyan and Karen Davtyan and extends condolences to their relatives and the Armenian people,” said Yuri Davtyan.

He also called on future philologists to struggle against all conflicts and wars with knowledge and to properly accomplish their mission of educating patriotic and struggling generations.

Hrant Sarafyan, a graduate of the faculty, has already served in the army and says he is proud of the fact. As he says, Azerbaijan’s sabotage advance forces Armenians to be more vigilant and united in order to give an adequate and powerful response to the enemy.

First-year MA student Sirarpi Gevorgyan says she felt double pain as her classmate was among the killed soldiers.

“This is a crime. Such subversive actions are characteristic of our enemy; they have become an indispensable element of our enemy that pass from one generation to the other through genes.  I think similar commemorative evenings will help increase the spirits of the youth and make us look back at our history to realize who we are, where we come from and what kind of future we seek to build up for us,” she said.

The students and lecturer-professorial team lit candles and said prayers for the souls of the fallen soldiers.
