The students of the Faculty of Preschool Education at Armenian State Pedagogical University (ASPU) summarized the results of the seminar “Learning and Volunteer
Opportunities.”
A few months ago, the Faculty signed a memorandum of cooperation with a number of educational institutions and non-governmental organizations from Yerevan and marzes (provinces).
The memorandum aimed at increasing the quality of education through volunteer work, improving professional skills and abilities of participant students, implementing certain provisions of the Bologna Declaration and carrying them out in Armenian universities.
Preparation of the academic process, thematic material on pedagogical and psychological topics, preparation of booklets, educational and parental meetings, scientific, public and cultural, events: all these comprise part of the work done by some 50 volunteer students of the Faculty in different educational institutions.
Lusine Asatryan, a third-year student of the Preschool Pedagogy and Psychology Department, simultaneously carry out voluntary activities in two education institutions [N23 kindergarten and N17 Special School] within the framework of the program.
Summing up her activities of the last three months, she said volunteering served its purpose in her case. The future pedagogue is delighted that she was able to apply the knowledge and skills acquired at the university in practice. "The program gave me an opportunity to have professional and personal achievements, it helped me gain experience in the work with children and discover the needs of the present-day school to be able to address them in the future,” she said.
Lusine Poghosyan, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Preschool Education, is pleased with the results of the work. She is convinced that the program will contribute to competition in the labour market, fill the lack of practice hours in the credit system and enable to more effectively mark student’s activism and independence.
