Major Issues Discussed at Academic Council

The Academic Council of Armenian State Pedagogical University (ASPU) convened a regular sitting. The agenda of the meeting included issues related to the election of heads of


chairs, conferment of academic titles, final results of certification exams, reports of standing committees adjunct to the Academic Council and the process of structural reforms at the ASPU. 

Before proceeding to the meeting agenda, Rouben  Mirzakhanyan, Rector of Armenian State Pedagogical University, President of the Academic Council, Doctor of Historical Sciences, congratulated all those who are celebrating a jubilee anniversary this month. Later on, he handed over Diplomas of Associate Professor and Professor to candidates for advanced academic degrees.
 
The first issue of the agenda was the election of candidates to fill vacant positions of heads of chairs. Melanya Astvatsatryan, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor, was elected head of Chair of Foreign Language Teaching Methodology, Karine Danielyan, Doctor of Geographical Sciences, Professor, was elected head of Chair of Ecology and Sustainable Development, Armen Elbakyan, Honored Art Worker of the Republic of Armenia, Professor, was elected head of Chair of Directing and Edvard Kokanyan, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences was elected head of Chair of Physics Teaching Methodology. They all received majority of votes in a secret ballot election.
 
The candidates eligible for academic titles were confirmed by secret unanimous ballot.
 

Mher Melik-Bakhshyan, ASPU Vice-Rector, Head of the Division of Coordination of Academic and Scientific Methodological Activities, summed up the results of certification exams for 2011-2012 academic year. He also made suggestions to improve the situation.
 
Further on, Mher Melik-Bakhshyan raised the issue of structural changes in the Faculty of Fine Arts.
 
Ara Yeremyan, Vice-Rector for Science and Postgraduate Education, Candidate of Legal Sciences, Associate Professor, also reflected on the process of structural reforms at the ASPU.
 
After presenting the curriculum for bachelor's degree in the Chair of Pedagogy (Interfaculty Department) and Chair of General Pedagogy (University Department), as well as systemic structural analyses, the vice-rector suggested dissolving the aforesaid chairs. 
 
To ensure a model of good management and high-quality education on different levels of education Ara Yeremyan stressed the need for the formation of separate chairs which was approved by the members of the Academic Council.
 
Tigran Ayvazyan, Vice-Rector for Distance and Additional Education, Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Associate Professor, emphasized the need for merging the Faculty of Physics and Technology and the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics. The Academic Council took note of the issue.
