On 14 September, a conference on 150th anniversary of General-Lieutenant Moses Silikyan was held at “Sardarapat” memorial.

The opening speech of the conferences headed “General Moses Silikyan” was made by the RA Minister of Defense, the Head of the Jubilee Committee Seyran Ohanyan. While introducing the path Moses Silikyan passed the Minister of Defense underlined the following, “Moses SIlikyan is a precious figure not only because of being the Commander of the battle of Sardarapat, but also as an image of an exemplary Commander.
According to the Minister, Moses Silikyan is a descendant of noble soldiers, who was never cut out of the Armenian reality, preserved his Armenian image, witnessed the sufferings of his people and always joined their aspirations. In extremely complicated situation both from political and military points of view, the General came up with the only right, comprehensively considered, and without exaggeration, a talented decision to raise the army and all those capable of bearing weapon to defend the centuries-old Armenian statehood from barbarian invasions of Turks.
Moreover, among those participating in the conference there were students of the Pedagogical University , together with the President of the Student Council Volodya Gasparyan, Deputy Dean on Science and Postgraduate Education of the Faculty of Education Psychology and Sociology, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate professor Hakob Tadevosyan, Associate professors from the Chair of Armenian History Samvel Petrosyan, Avetis Haroutyunyan, Armen Asatryan, Khachik Stepanyan, as well as lecturers Armen Abgaryan, Armine Yeprikyan, Candidates of Historiography Mariam Yeghyan, Vahe Torosyan, and the lecturer of the Chair of World History Hayk Grigoryan.
A number of prominent historians delivered speeches and lectures; among them were the Director of the Institute of History of National Academy of Sciences, Doctor of Historiography, Professor, Associate Member of the National Academy of Sciences Ashot Melqonyan,the Director of the National Archives of Armenia Amatouni Virabyan, the Dean of the Faculty of History of the YSU, Doctor of Historiography, Professor Edick Minasyan.
The latter more thoroughly presented the story of General-Lieutenant Moses Silikyan’s family, as well as discussed the heroic episodes of this military a figure.
What is more, within the framework of 150th anniversary of the General a comprehensive programme dedicated to Moses Silikyan is arranged which will also continue during the coming weeks.
