“Shushi”- the Hearth of Armenian Culture

From 16-19 September, the international conference headed “Shushi- the Hearth of Armenian Culture” was held in Shushi, which was dedicated to 500th anniversary of Armenian printing.
 
As a matter of fact, the venue selection was not made randomly; actually, the first printing house of Artsakh was in Shushi.
 
The conference opened with an exhibition of samples of books printed in the old Armenian fortress.
 
During the conference the highly professional specialists in science and culture from various universities of Armenia, Artsakh, the USA and Russia made reports about Armenian printing, the Shushi culture, the archeological and spiritual life.
 
In addition, among those present at the conference there was also the Head of Chair of Library Sciences and Bibliography of the Pedagogical University, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor Gagik Suqiasyan.
 
 The latter was also the Head of Shushi branch of “Armenian Printing and Periodicals” and delivered his report headed “Books and Libraries in the History of Artsakh”. 
 
The Library Sciences professional is assured that writing and literature serve basis for education that will help us to present the true history of the nation to the enemies.
 
“Such conferences are of both historical and strategic importance. They will assist in praising praise the historical past and reassessing the meaning of Armenia- Diaspora- Artsakh relations. Armenians have a glorious role in the history of printing and it is a significant fact to remind the World about,” Gagik Suqiasyan added.
 
Upon the end of the conference the President of NKR, Mr. Bako Sahakyan expressed his gratitude to the Presidents of branches of the conference and emphasized the meaning of the subjects in question from the perspectives of regional history and the study of the location and role of Artsakh, and Shushi in this matter.
