Academic Council Focuses on Internal Quality Assurance and Monitoring of Educational Programs

The Academic Council of Armenian State Pedagogical University (ASPU) has convened its recurrent sitting.


Before proceeding to the meeting agenda, APSU Rector, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Rouben Mirzakhanyan congratulated all those who are celebrating their jubilee anniversary this month.
 
Mkrtich Avagyan, Head of the Department of Educational Development and Quality Assurance, introduced the members of the Academic Council the concept of internal quality assurance policy, as well as monitoring and review of professional educational programs at the University.
 
He stressed that the University views the quality of education not only a strategic goal for creating a knowledgeable society and providing high-quality educational services, but also a strategic tool against internal and external impulses in the field of competition that will boost the University’s activity and attractiveness in the international arena. 
 
 “In the context of ongoing changes in the economic and social needs, the ASPU highlights creation and provision of such educational programs and services that aim to meet international, national and social needs in Armenia and on the international level,” Mkrtich Avagyan said while presenting his report. 
 

He believes that the monitoring and review of educational programs will help reveal the strong and weak points of the given educational program, properly study and evaluate it and focus on the teaching methodology applied in the program.
 
The concept and procedure presented in the report received the approval of the Academic Council.
 

 

Mher Melik-Bakhshyan, ASPU Vice-Rector, Head of the Division of Coordination of Academic and Scientific Methodological Activities, referred in his report to the cooperation between the Pedagogical University and Oulu University [of Finland] within the framework of the “European Quality and Compliance” program.
 
The latter presented the process of joint practical works, their study and the formats of the developed curricula. 


 
 
"This partnership is an opportunity to introduce a new European culture in the educational process, ensure the competitiveness of Armenian education on the European level, carry out new joint research projects which will also contribute to the application of scientific-research work results in the local pedagogical education,” Mher Melik-Bakhshyan said.
During the sitting, Mezhlum Yeritsyan, Professor, Candidate of Chemical Sciences, lecturer at the Chair of Chemistry and its Teaching Methods, was elected head of the same chair by secret ballot. He was the only candidate for the post. Three candidates were granted the title of professor. Besides, the Council approved topics for two PhD and one doctoral thesis.
