The Faculties of Philology and Foreign Languages today invited students and professorial staff of the Pedagogical University to celebrate the European Day of Languages

together.
They had organized an interfaculty event which started with the anthem of the European Union (EU).
Karen Hayryan, Dean of the Faculty of Foreign Languages, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences and Professor, spoke about languages as grammatical means, as well as about living and dead languages. He also highlighted the role and importance of languages in the field of communication conditioned by the public demand.
“It is highly important that we properly assess the tip of the day as in 2001 the European Union adopted a policy that declared all languages as universal values,” he said.

Regarding the teaching of foreign languages at universities, Karen Hayryan was proud to say that Russian, English, German, French and Spanish are profoundly taught at the Pedagogical University.
Further on, Melanya Astvatsatryan, head of the Chair of Foreign Language Teaching Methods, Chief Specialist of EU languages in Armenia, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor and RF academician, presented in her report the period of the EU formation, its structure, objectives and the spheres of activities.
The participants also watched a film about the Council of Europe, its goals and achievements.
Heads of the Faculties of Philology and Foreign Languages delivered speeches in connection with the European Day of Languages.
Donara Ghazaryan, Acting Head of the Chair of Romance Languages, Candidate of Philological Sciences and Associate Professor, emphasized the knowledge of languages in terms of social progress.
“The importance of multilingual education is increasing with the development of society. It aims to create a society, in which all languages are equally reflected, becoming anchors of friendship and mutual enrichment between nations,” she said.
In 2001 the Council of Europe and the European Union declared September 26 European Day of Languages to promote the spread of languages and multilingualism in the globe.
