
Painter Zakhar Khachatryan, Professor of the Chair of Fine Arts at the Pedagogical University, has been granted the title of People's Artist of the Republic of Armenia for his long-term services and creative achievements.
Let us remind that on the occasion of the 21st anniversary of the RA Independence, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan signed decrees on conferring highest state awards, decorations and honorary military ranks upon representatives of scientific, educational, health, economic, arts and cultural sectors, as well as armed forces and law enforcement agencies.
From 1951 to 1956, Zakhar Khachatryan studied at Leningrad Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture named after Ilya Repin, apprenticing with world-famed Boris Ioganson, Alexander Gerasimov, Zaitsev and others.
In his numerous canvases, the Master has combined the traditions of the Armenian national culture and the new trends

of European schools.
Since 1970, Zakhar Khachatryan has been lecturing at the Pedagogical University in the Department of Painting. In 1981-1992, he headed a chair at the University.
At the invitation of the University administration, the talented Master will again lecture at the Faculty of Art Education for one semester, sharing his long-term experience with future artist-educators.
The paintings and large canvases of the Master were put on public display at the National Gallery of Armenia from Sept. 11 to 30. His individual exhibition was dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the Pedagogical University.
