The Faculty of Biology, Chemistry and Geography will host the presentation of the lecture on the subject “Fossil Fish Resources of the Sisianyan Sediment in the Basin of River

 Vorotan and its Significance for the Discovery of Climate Changes”; the lecture was delivered by the Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor Samuel Pipoyan.
 
This lecture was dedicated to the World Animal Day and aimed at introducing the results of the study of South Armenian fossil fauna and flora during the recent ten years, as well as to explain its practical meaning for solving environmental problems and to stipulate the development of paleontological science. 
 
On this occasion, the audience got acquainted with the historical process of development of fish resources in Armenian waters on the common background of climate and the Earth crust changes. 
 
Besides, particular attention was focused on the maple flora and modern and fossil fish resources in the Vorotan basin, on the basis of which conclusions were made about the climate change peculiarities in Armenia during the previous million or half a million years ago.
 
 “On the one hand, all issues referred to in this lecture may serve as curricula material for the MA courses of Biology, Ecology and Geology and be included in special taught courses. On the other hand, the environmental problems discussed in the lecture and its solving variants may be utilized for a more effective organization of environmental events,” Samuel Pipoyan mentioned.
 
In her turn, the 1st year MA student of the Department of Biology on the Faculty Lussineh Avetisyan outlined the given information as an interesting educational material for students.
 
And last but not least, the Head of the Department of Biology and its Teaching Methods, Professor Tigran Tangamyan made a concluding speech in which he highly praised the scientific and educational meaning of the event; he also expressed a desire to present it to a larger audience.
