New partnership within the framework of international project

Armenian State Pedagogical University (ASPU) has become a partner of a new international project in education. The project is co-financed by the Governments of Czechia, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia through Visegrad Grants from International Visegrad Fund.  The mission of the fund is to advance ideas for sustainable regional cooperation in Central Europe.

The goal of the project is to develop reading skills through integrated methods of information perception and analysis, and to disseminate and test the reading intervention program (IP) aimed at improving reading comprehension and abilities.

The program is based on the results of the recent research which have identified key patterns and predictors of reading literacy and comprehension. These innovative materials have been processed and developed in several European languages, including native (Slovak and Hungarian) and foreign languages (English, German, French and Spanish).

The Pedagogical University will have the opportunity to not only use the innovative materials in teaching, but will also contribute to their transformation and adaptation, based on the challenges in the country’s education system.

The latest statistical figures indicate that a significant number of pupils in Armenia cannot understand age-appropriate texts. In this context, the program is really important and essential for improving the quality of education.

The project coordinator is Constantine the Philosopher University in Nitra and the partners are the Prague University of Economics and Business (PUEB), the University of Bielsko-Biała (Poland), Eszterházy Károly Catholic University (Hungary), and Aleksandër Moisiu University  (Albania).

In Armenia and Albania, the program will be implemented through workshops, courses, and experimental teaching, aimed at improving both the methodological competencies of foreign and native language teachers, as well as the reading skills of learners. In addition, the program will contribute to the development of skills of spotting fake news, critical analysis, and verifying data credibility.
