New teaching platform to be introduced at ASPU

The Education Development and Quality Assurance Department today organized a working meeting with Deans, Deputy Deans and staff members of the University responsible for online training courses.

The aim of the meeting was to present the new tool in Google Apps – Google Classroom, which is a blended learning platform for education. It will replace Seafile system introduced at the Pedagogical University in 2014 which was initially meant for students taking distance-learning courses and first-year students who are taking online courses at the University.

Anush Sargsyan, one of the leading specialists of the Department, presented in detail the new feature of Google - Google Classroom which was introduced in 2015, its capacities and advantages. She stressed that the Classroom API allows registering for free at least 10 000 users, who can make use of all services of Google, provides University lecturers and students e-mail addresses through the University’s website @aspu.am by registering them in a single system, provides efficient feedback and easy communication by notifying each other through individual e-mail addresses.

Assignments and teaching material on the relevant subject can be posted in Drive folders. Students can easily see what’s due on their Assignments page. Students are also engaged in interactive learning inside and outside of class. Classroom provides online two-way communication between students and lecturers, has guidelines for students and staff members and organizes trainings for users. Anush Sargsyan also presented the steps they had taken for the introduction of the new system at the University. “Classroom is now used in a number of universities, and there is positive feedback about its efficiency,” she added.

“This is a completely new platform that can fully serve the new teaching objectives of our University within the framework of online learning. Since last year, students have been receiving additional literature, lectures and assignments by lecturers: online teaching turns out to be more interactive,” Mkrtich Avagyan, Head of Education Development and Quality Assurance Department, told old.aspu.am. He added that the previous system had limited opportunities, and the new education platform will fill the gap.

The meeting ended with a question-and-answer session. More meetings will be held in the future with other target groups.
