May is a month of glorious victories for the Armenians and has great significance for the nation. On the occasion of May 9 triple celebrations, ASPU Base (High School) College organized a matinee entitled “May Holidays” marking the glorious victories of Armenian people.
The first part of the event that began with the rhetorical question “To be or not to be” was dedicated to the Battle of Sardarapat. “The brave sons of Armenia gathered around our army and fought for the physical existence of our people, for the recovery of the wounds of our homeland, for the restoration of our freedom and independence, for the bright future of next generations, for the noble idea of powerful statehood. They fought and won,” said the pupils.
They presented the most important events and episodes of the battle, valiant efforts of Lieutenant-General Movses Silikyan and joint steps of statesmen Aram Manukyan and Garegin Nzhdeh towards the establishment of Armenian statehood – all in a small performance.
Then they focused on another important event in the history of Armenia – the historical importance of the formation of First Republic. “I live hugging my homeland to feel its breath everywhere, I live hugging my homeland to inherit the call of blood of a noble nation…” The pupils’ love and confession for their homeland and freedom waltz “were interrupted” by the start of the Great Patriotic War.
As is typical to an Armenian who selflessly serves his motherland, more than 600 000 Armenians participated in the Great Patriotic War, 106 of whom were awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union. The pupils presented the historical fact and figures with great pride and dignity. Then they spoke about the ‘triple’ anniversary in May - the anniversary of Shushi liberation, formation of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic’s Defense Army and anniversary of the end of World War II in Europe. Speaking about the capture of the ancient city-fortress of Shushi, they said, “Did you win or lose as a country? The fortress is ours, but the boys are gone…”
Pupils of the ASPU Base (High School) College are convinced that Armenians fight with devotion and bravery; they continue fight and win to this day: the evidence of this was the military dance Yakhushta which concluded the matinee.
“This is a small contribution by the eleventh-form pupils of the college to their homeland which is an encouraging step these days. This is a step to remind everyone of our history, a step of consolidation. The event promoted historical consciousness. These very pupils are defenders of our country and we should rely on them,” Mary Vengrzhanovich, a teacher of Social Science and organizer of the event, told old.aspu.am.
Naira Safaryan, Head of the ASPU College, congratulated everyone on the triple holiday, wishing them new victories.
