Pedagogical University in Sociological Marathon

Today, the Pedagogical University’s Chair of Sociology and Social Work had a video conference to participate in a social marathon headed “Researcher 2.0: Changing Profession in Digital Era” organized by the Russian Public Opinion Research Centre (RPORC).

Armenia is participating in such a marathon for the first time, and this is a new form of educational seminar and is a unique opportunity for young students, PhDs, researchers, living in various regions, who can now ask their questions to the leading specialists of the sphere through spacebridge.

Among the participants of the marathon there were sociologists, historians, psychologists, economists, representatives of other disciplines; during the marathon new opportunities for public development and modern issues thereof were discussed; as well as, they referred to the industrial and professional capacities of the field researcher, methods and technologies used in sociology practice and theory.

Likewise, skills and development needs required to be a leader and to be in high demand in the market were also specified.

The main speakers of the marathon were the Director of the Russian Public Opinion Research Centre Mr. Valeri Fyodorov and representatives of a number of international organizations cooperating with the RPORC.

“This project is coming out of the scope of sociology. Today, already 20 countries with representatives from 25 universities have joined us. We want to understand which country is the leader in this sphere or will become in 10-15 years’ time as this initiative mostly refers to the future”, mentioned Mr. Valeri Fyodorov.

The social marathon continued its work in branches; the characteristics of sociologists, the sociological research processes and factors affecting these processes, as well as the ways to fight sociological challenges in society were presented, new research methods and technologies used in the sphere including the BIGData, digitalization, robots and new working opportunities were analysed.
