Natural science professionals awarded…

On December 20, ASPU Rector Srbuhi Gevorgyan awarded the “Khachatur Abovyan" medal, the highest award of ASPU, to Tigran Tangamyan, Professor of the Faculty of Biology, Chemistry and Geography, for the latter’s outstanding contributions to science and pedagogy.

Professor Ashot Babakhanyan was awarded the "Pedagogical University" medal for his outstanding contributions to the training of young professionals and development of higher education, while Professors Gevorg Karapetyan and Samvel Pipoyan received ASPU Centennial commemorative medal for their impeccable work.

Rector Srbuhi Gevorgyan stressed in her speech that the Faculty has had a special role in its century-long history of the University: one of the University’s missions to train natural science professionals remains unchanged, and even today, regardless of changes in the concepts and methods of pedagogy, its role and significance does not decrease in schools in terms of training specialists of that field.

Ruzan Sadoyan, Dean of the Faculty of Biology, Chemistry, notes that the Faculty has 85 years of history. great devotees of science and education have taught there. She adds that that although different structural changes have been made at the Faculty, it has rich traditions that are preserved to this day.

Ruzanna Sadoyan wished many years of fruitful activity to her senior colleagues with extensive experience, so that they can keep investing their knowledge, experience and potential in the development of the three main branches of natural science, education and rearing of the younger generation. “We should continue the good traditions of the University and the Faculty and steadily follow the education process. Educator’s mission includes a responsibility not only for the formation and development of a specialist, but also for the future of generations, the state, and the nation," she said.

Professor Tangamyan, who has spent 60 years of his life at the Pedagogical University, says the rise of the University since his student years is obvious. He says that he has many awards, but today's award is different and the highest among the others.

Professor Samvel Pipoyan added, in turn, that he was formed as a scientist at this University; his serious scientific potential was formed with the support of the University. He regrets to say that the field of natural science is neglected today, and a scientist’s status in biology is no longer attractive. Anyway, he hopes that thanks to the devotees of the sphere and with state support, it will be possible to restore the former glory of science: this is also a matter of national security.

ASPU Rector Srbuhi Gevorgyan awarded certificates of appreciation and honour to a group of Faculty professors for conscientious and effective performance of their professional duties.

The awards ceremony was followed by an exhibition of scientific and methodological manuals by the teaching staff of the Faculty.
