More than 50 paintings by 13 ASPU students, who had participated in an international symposium of plein air painting held at the Pedagogical University earlier in May, opened at the University on Friday, May 13.
Head of the Chair of Fine Arts, Paravon Mirzoyan, hailed the participation of BA and MA students of the University in the international symposium together with 16 famous artists who had arrived from six countries.
Mr Mirzoyan stressed that the unprecedented event in the education system which was entitled “Plein air Armenia -2016” enabled the University students to watch and get acquainted with the creative activity of foreign artists, participate in the debates held at the University’s training centre in
Aghavnadzor, get involved in different discussions, exchange experience, attend master classes which were both instructive and interesting.
The head of the Chair considered it natural that the exhibition of works of ASPU students was organized after the exhibition of paintings of the plein air painters at the National Gallery of Armenia which opened earlier in the week. “The future painters showed high creative skills. They were able to understand environmental conditions, changes in nature, and convey the mood of the assigned etude,” Mr Mirozyan said. He promised that more students would participate in the next plein air event.
Lecturer Nikol Aghababyan also congratulated the participating students adding that he always knew that ‘the University has very talented and hard-working students.’ “We became convinced of it during the symposium,” he stressed. Mr Aghababyan also emphasized the presence of foreign artists and the results shown by the ASPU students. He stressed that it is necessary to ensure the continuity of the event. “You are very good [painters]. Your generation is unique and the fact that you left us behind is seen in all spheres. The art of ‘independence generation’ should be stronger and more liberated,” the lecturer said.
Gagik Asatryan, a third-year-student of the University who participated in the international symposium, had two of his works exhibited at the ASPU - one of them portrays Kecharis Monastery in Tsakhkadzor and the other - the beautiful nature Aghavnadzor. Talking to old.aspu.am, the young artist highlighted the opportunity given to him and his friends by the University, considering it highly effective and assuring everyone that the joint work with foreign artists was important for them as besides gaining experience, the students were also introduced to new styles of painting.
All the 13 students received Letters of Appreciation. The best 5 students also received presents.
The exhibition will run through May 17. In September, 2016, five lecturers and one student of the Chair of Fine Arts will travel to Lithuania to participate in a plein air event there.
