Portrait Illustration of Linguist Ashot Abrahamyan displayed at ASPU

The portrait illustration of Professor Ashot Abrahamyan, a famous linguist, expert of Grabar (Classical Armenian), Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia, was displayed in the hall of the ASPU Faculty of Philology.

The authors of the project are Taron Aleksanyan, a lecturer at the Faculty of Art Education, and Luiza Hovhannisyan, a fourth-year student at the same faculty. The event was attended by lecturers and students of the Faculty of Philology.

Dean of the Faculty of Philology Ashot Galstyan says it is important to honor famous people nowadays․ "The event does not take us to the past, rather, it takes the past to the present. He says Ashot Abrahamyan was not a just great man, he was a genius in terms of his knowledge, description, and legacy.

Professor Aelita Dolukhnyan, Head of the Chair of Ancient and Medieval Armenian Literature and its Teaching Methods, a corresponding member of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia, recalled a number of interesting episodes from the famous educator's activity and her years of study.

The professor says she was lucky enough to have been a student of Ashot Abrahamyan. She got emotional when he saw the illustration: "The famous linguist was a strict lecturer, a great patriot and an exceptional figure who was ready to support the devotees of science."

Professor Vazgen Hambardzumyan, Head of the Chair of the Armenian Language and its Teaching Methods after Ararat Gharibyan, hailed the idea of having the illustration saying it is a great initiative. He says Ashot Abrahamyan has made significant contributions in linguistics. "The younger generation should know their elders - they are the pride of our nation."

"Today we have gathered here to value our past, to give meaning and evaluate Ashot Abrahamyan's role in the fate of each of us. Even today, the famous educator is a a guide for us, priest of science," said Professor Suren Danielyan, Acting Head of the Chair of New and Modern Literature and its Teaching Methods after Vache Partizuni.

The professor considered the illustration to be modern and classic at the same time."We need to make Armenian greats well-known and make their activities public," says Taron Aleksanyan, the author of the project.

For some time now, the graphic designer has been collaborating with his student, implementing a number of innovative projects at the university. He promises that the project will be continued․ In the near future, he is going to implement other projects by using new techniques.

Let us note that the Honored Scientist of the Armenian SSR, renowned linguist Ashot Abrahamyan headed the Head of the Chair of the Armenian Language and its Teaching Methods after Ararat Gharibyan for many years. He is the author of a number of scientific publications.

Ashot Abrahamyan's greatest service to Armenology has been and remains the translation [into Eastern Armenian] of two valuable books - “Refutation of the Sects” by Eznik Koghbatsi (Eznik of Kolb), Yeznik Koghbatsi's "False Sect" and "History of Syunik” by Stepanos Orbelyan, two prominent figures of medieval Armenia.
