“Present us your educational order and we shall review the curricula”

“You order us the model of an educator that you would like to have and we review the curricula in compliance with your “order,” making the necessary changes in them: we need each other,” Professor Aida Topuzyan, Head of the Chair of Professional Education and Applied Pedagogy, said during a roundtable discussion on the topic “Current Issues of Preschool Education of Armenia.”

The roundtable discussion was organized by the Chair of Preschool Education and Methodology of the Faculty of Primary Education. It was attended by members of the ASPU academic staff, heads of preschool institutions, pedagogues and specialists who jointly discussed priorities and problematic issues of the sector.

Professor Aida Topuzyan also spoke about the unsolved problems that exist in families, society and kindergartens, assuring everyone that they need to work together as the work had become more complicated: they need to work not only with children but also with their parents. “Each society can be assessed by the principle of how it values children and the elderly,” the Professor said calling the attention of the sphere representatives to the education activities in kindergartens, unchanged timetables and information overload in children.

Srbuhi Gevorgyan, ASPU Vice-Rector for Educational and Scientific Affairs, said the University pays special attention to the problems in preschool education: first, ASPU is the main university that trains specialists of the sector, second, the University administration fully realizes that the public image is determined by the right choice of methods and ways that provide the education process in preschool institutions.

“Programmes are changed, standards are revised, the process of education is constantly kept in the spotlight, without noticing that aggression is increasing in the modern world. Studying the influence of effective social factors on children we can clearly see the changes in Earth,” the Vice-Rector said adding that experienced and knowledgeable teachers will shape the image of young people whom every parent wants to have.

Heghine Khachatryan, Dean of the Faculty of Primary Education, expressed hope that it will be possible to make cooperation effective based on the educational order, as well as identify specific problems and difficulties, trying to find more effective solutions to them. She says everyone should love children, and it is not right to view love for children as a professional quality of a teacher. “It is the work of specialists and they should work with children need love and professionalism.”

During the roundtable discussion, lecturers of the Chair of Preschool Education and Methodology also referred to modern approaches to preschool education, characteristics of inclusive education in preschool institutions, problems of organization of educational work and cooperation of various structures of the sector.

Addressing representatives of various education institutions, she said that preschool education requires cooperation of a number of structures of the sector with the aim of shaping an independent, creative individual with analytical thinking skills.

Not only outstanding and experienced, but also young and erudite principals, teachers and specialists presented their opinions and observations: they encounter the aforesaid problems in their daily activities.

They hailed the reforms carried out at the ASPU in that direction and expressed hope that each academic achievement at the University will have its tangible reflection in the practical activities of preschool institutions.
