The presentation of the "Young Mathematician" encyclopedia published on the initiative of the Faculty of Primary Education took place on May 4.
ASPU Rector Srbuhi Gevorgyan congratulated everyone on the publication of the book, adding that it is in line with the university’s motto of the year - 360 days at school, with teachers and schoolchildren. She then hailed the painstaking and effective work of the Faculty of Primary Education, Dean of the Faculty Heghine Khachatryan and Chairs.
The Rector thanked the authors of the book, Babken Nersisyan and Aida Karapetyan for always being in school, speaking about the needs of schools and presenting them in the university system, and for constantly adding new achievements to the university-school-society platform.
Heghine Khachatryan, Dean of the Faculty of Primary Education, congratulated her colleagues on the publication of the encyclopedia, and Knarik Hovhannisyan, Head of the Chair of Mathematics and Elementary Education, introduced the the "Young Mathematician" encyclopedia and its authors.
Knarik Hovhannisyan recalled 1986 when as a student she participated in a school olympiad in Ararat region where she first met Babken Nersisyan.
He changed my thoughts about my future profession. I decided to become a mathematician even without dreaming that one day I would have the opportunity to introduce him [to public]," Knarik Hovhannisyan said adding that the authors of the encyclopedia started their activity from a secondary school, passed a difficult way of teaching with different textbooks, and created such a book for teachers and pupils thereby connecting schools and universities.
The head of the chair also praised the encyclopedia as the first textbook guide in the Armenian language, adding that the current tendencies of pedagogical thought ‘go to’ the concepts of international thought․ In that context, the transmission of the history of the Armenian educational thought and mathematical thought to the generations is of vital importance.
“This is an achievement for the teaching staff of the Faculty of Primary Education, the Chair and the Pedagogical University. I expect that the trajectory set for all of us by our respectful educators will be an important example for our generations," said the head of the chair.
The message of the encyclopedia authors was conveyed to ASPU Rector Srbuhi Gevorgyan in written: the message is expected to be kept inside a bottle in the museum or library of the university and be opened and read [for future generations] on the 200th anniversary of the university or 100th anniversary of the book.
When presenting the process of work, Aida Karapetyan, one of the authors of the encyclopedia, expressed hope that it will become a friend and companion of readers. "We hope that the encyclopedia will familiarize teenagers with developments in mathematics, develop their logical-mathematical thinking, help them solve many problems they will come across in the educational process,” she said.
The speakers hailed the publication of the encyclopedia.
Professor Hamlet Mikaelyan emphasized the role of Professor Haykuni Harutyunyan in the activity of the Chair. Afterwards, he spoke about the encyclopedia, noting that it presents very interesting mathematical ideas in development and relationship, in fact mathematics is not ‘dry’ as it is often called.
Head of the Chair of Pedagogy, Professor Aida Topuzyan, stressed that each and every book, including this encyclopedia, develops us and makes us proud. It belongs not only to the authors, but to everyone. Professor Topuzyan advised the heads of other chairs to think about creating similar encyclopedias.
Tigran Petrosyants, Director of the ASPU Scientific Library, Associate Professors Varazdat Vardazaryan and Sevada Khachatryan, both Candidates of Physics and Mathematics, also congratulated the authors of the book.
