The ASPU Chair of Armenian History organized a discussion on the current state of Armenian monuments, their preservation and other related issues.

The meeting held at ASPU focused on Armenian cultural and historic heritage, archeological achievements, preservation and protection of historical and cultural monuments in unimpaired and original condition. The event was attended by students of ASPU and Yerevan branch of Plekhanov Russian University of Economics, as well as pupils of different schools.

Greeting the attendees, Edgar Hovhannisyan, Dean of the Faculty of History and Law, stressed the importance of the event for students and pupils. He added that such events are regularly organized in different historic sites within the framework of practical lessons. The dean stressed that they enable students to get acquainted with our cultural values and history. Mr. Hovhannisyan expressed his hope that the meeting would arouse interest among the participating pupils and help them with career planning.

Ashot Piliposyan, Head of the Chair of Armenian History, said Armenia has about 25,000 state-registered monuments. The interdepartmental archeological commission, historical and cultural monuments protection agency and scientific council periodically examine and increase the number of monuments.

“For us, it is important to be able to preserve and transfer to the next generations what we have,” the Professor said urging the presentees to continue the patriotic mission of protection of cultural and historic heritage with great enthusiasm.

Mr. Piliposyan assured everyone that the Pedagogical University in cooperation with partner organizations is ready to organize similar meetings and discussions over issues that interest future specialists.

The participants touched upon a number of alarming issues, namely preservation of the Armenian historical and cultural heritage and the status of monuments in the neighboring but non-friendly countries, preservation and conservation of unfinished historical monuments on the territory of historical Armenia and discussed all possible measures to avoid their further destruction. They also watched a documentary about historical and cultural monuments on the territory of historical Armenia.
