On April 5, the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Informatics of Armenian State Pedagogical University (ASPU) hosted pupils of Yerevan Basic School № 75 accompanied by class teacher Hasmik Simonyan.
The purpose of the visit was to meet Hamlet Mikayelyan, the author of the "Algebra" textbook. The professor delivered a unique lecture, focusing in his speech on temporary and permanent values, including the Homeland, the importance of learning, Mathematics, science, perception of beauty, etc.
Hamlet Mikayelyan says development of science has shown that not the number of people, but the existence of strong individuals is important: he considers education to be an important key to success.
Speaking about school subjects, Hamlet Mikayelyan highlighted the knowledge of the Mother Tongue, adding that in that context Mathematics is also a language, an exceptional language, which is a target value for specialists; for others it can serve as an important tool to achieve success in various areas.
"Mathematics is a language, and the book of nature is written in the language of Mathematics. In order to read that book, one needs to know the language of Mathematics," the professor said and added that it [Mathematics] helps reveal the truth by providing a proof.
Hamlet Mikayelyan says another important value of Mathematics is that it enables to recognize beauty. "Mathematics gives the opportunity to see the beauty," he said adding that Mathematics also helps develop attention, mental processes and makes a person purposeful.
The professor advised the pupils to study well and learn Mathematics, otherwise ‘you lose not only what you have, but also what you could have, but have not got.’
At the end of the meeting, Hamlet Mikayelyan gave his books to the pupils and Hasmik Simonyan, a graduate of ASPU who is a Mathematics teacher today. The pupils walked around the university building, visited the History Museum and got acquainted with the educational institution that has a century-old history and rich educational traditions.
