It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of Sergo Yeritsyan, Professor at the ASPU Chair of TV Journalism, Doctor of Sciences in Philology. He was 66 years old.
From 1975 to 1978, Sergo Yeritsyan studied at the Faculty of Philology, YSU, and from 1978 to 1981 -at the Faculty of Journalism, Lomonosov Moscow State University. Later, he took a post-graduate course in the same specialty.
Since 1981, Sergo Yeritsyan had been teaching at various universities, including ASPU. During his lifetime, he held different positions, starting from a member of the National Assembly, Minister of Education and Science of the Republic of Armenia, Head of the State Language Inspectorate of Armenia, to Chairman of the State Language Commission of Armenia.
Sergo Yeritsyan is the author of numerous books, professional manuals, and scientific publications.
Sergo Yeritsyan passed on his theoretical and practical experience in journalism
to tens of generations of future journalists - a mastery that the long-time journalist had accumulated during his fruitful activity in the field. He was one of the devotees of Armenia’s media sector who made an irrevocable contribution to the education of generations of journalists, helping them pave their professional path.
Since 1981, Sergo Yeritsyan was the host of “Kartsiq” (“Opinion”) TV program which is still remembered and watched by different generations.
As a journalist, statesman and pedagogue, Sergo Yeritsyan dedicated his life and activity to the development of Armenian journalism and university pedagogy; they seem to be a whole legacy for future generations.
The ASPU leadership and lecturers express their deepest condolences to the Yeritsyan family on the death of Sergo Yeritsyan.
