A few days ago, a voluminous monograph headed “French Armenologists (19-20th centuries)” was published. The author of the book is the Head of the Chair of Ancient and Medieval Armenian Literature and its Teaching Methods, the Associate Member of the RA NAS, Doctor of Philology, Professor Aelita Dolukhanyan .

The heritage of Armenian Studies [Armenology] conducted by prominent French Armenologists of the 19-20th centuries is presented in the monograph. As well as, it comprises two articles about one of the greatest specialists of Armenian Studies Jean-Pierre Mahei and his brief biography.

This book is the result of many-years’ hard work of Professor Dolukhanyan. According to the author, neither Armenian, nor any foreign literature has had such a deep and comprehensive reference thereto yet.

“There are many French Armenologists, but in the given book I introduced the most prominent ones, who had a huge contribution in presenting the Armenian literature to the world; they are connecting the Armenian literature, history and culture to the world emphasising our role at all times”, Aelita Dolukhanyan mentioned in her interview to the www.old.aspu.am.

Moreover, according to the Professor, Armenians are sometimes making certain exaggeration not realizing the true role of Armenian people in the World history; while foreigners analyze, study and discover the role of Armenian nation in the World history and culture more objectively. In addition, she thinks that making the scientific heritage of the European Armenologists of the past more accessible is, in fact, quite actual today.

“The French Armenologists had a great dedication towards the history and culture of the Armenian nation. They were true devotees as they were accepting the world as all humans’ heritage”, added the NAS Associate Member and assured that she was planning to refer to the English Armenologists in the future too.

Speaking about the peculiarities of the work, the literary critic noted that there was a specific meaning in the scientific biography; it was the comprehensive summary of the scientist’s thoughts about the literature and history of Armenian nation, and the product of his long work.

The monograph “French Armenologists 19-20th (centuries)” is foreseen for those who are interested in history and literature of the Armenian nation, and for the wide reading society.

The book in question was published by the decision of the RA NAS Scientific Publishing Board and the Academic Board of the Institute of Literature after M. Abeghyan, with the assistance of the Pan-Armenian Foundation, within the framework of the 17th International Summit of La Francophonie.
