The 11th grade pupils of the English-language sub-stream of the Base School visited the Armenian State Pedagogical University (ASPU) within the scope of the university-school cooperation.
What is stress? What causes stress? What is its impact on the human organism? What are the measures for prevention? The students hosted at the Faculty of Education Psychology and Sociology, remarked that even though they are not specialists, they have conducted a short study on the topic and have decided to present it to future psychologists.
Among those attending the open lesson were ASPU Vice-Rector for Education and Science Naira Safaryan, as well as the administration and students of the Faculty of Education Psychology and Sociology.
During the interactive lesson, the pupils of the Base School provided information about the topic in English, and later, through cooperation and question-and-answer session, they tried to receive answers to their questions of interest with academic justifications.
The students and future psychologists of the ASPU attached importance to the work with a specialist in the case of overcoming stress, touched upon the age groups for crises, talked about the impact of stress on those age groups and presented a number of important rules for not causing harm.
Dean of the Faculty of Education Psychology and Sociology Ruzanna Petrosyan notes that psychology is a deep science and that it is not easy to understand the psyche of a person, adding that a tremendous job was done; the pupils of the Base School amazed everyone with not only their knowledge of the topic, but also their English language proficiency.
“A doctor treats a disease, while a psychologist treats a patient,” recalled Dean Petrosyan, who is also a psychologist by profession. She is certain that the profession will spark even more interest among the pupils of the Base School, and most of them might join the ranks of the students of the ASPU.
ASPU Vice-Rector, longstanding Director of the Base School Naira Safaryan says she is twice as proud because, as always, she considers the cooperation between the two educational institutions a success.
Safaryan reminded that the Base School is currently in the lead in the general education sector on the one hand, and the university helps educate competitive alumni with its adopted policy on the other hand. Safaryan noted that she was the one who came up with the idea of having a sub-stream for psychology in the Base School (for years the subject was taught by the alumni of the Faculty).
The Vice-Rector believes that the subject must be taught in high school, regardless of the stream; it is interesting for the students, who receive the answers to their questions of interest from a specialist in person. Naira Safaryan does not hide the fact that the lesson was effective for both sides; the students learned a lot, and the most impressive was the English language proficiency.
“We learn by teaching” — the Faculty of Education Psychology and Sociology considers the school-university cooperation a success. Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Education Psychology and Sociology Lida Aramyan views the classroom procedure as an effective method and an experimental process. She believes conveying knowledge and transmitting information related to the profession during the classroom procedure will help students masterfully apply this knowledge and information in practice and during the conduct of research.
Anna Mayilyan, English language teacher of the high school (base school), assures that it was a subsequent English language lesson and remarks that group work forms a part of the classroom procedure; within the scope of the current topic, they decided to ensure the relationship of the Base School with the Armenian State Pedagogical University, also revitalizing the cooperation.
The Base School is certain that the pupils have a lot to learn from the students of the ASPU and fully hopes that the joint project will be implemented soon and that the next meeting will be held at the Base School.
