Rector Meets the Heads of Chairs

Exclusion of the possibility for a student to have the examination ticket or question in advance, changing it, using the library, and innovation of graduate examination via new electronic system; this and other questions were discussed by the Rector during the meeting with the Heads of Chairs calling for their suggestions.

“The high number of Excellent or Unsatisfactory marks received at the examination does not yet stand for the transparent process or quality of examinations ; we are recording the high score which is truly objective and reflects the students answers”, stated the Rector and added that each change has the aim of making the examination process most effective.

Likewise, the Rector assured that the new electronic system would be introduced in all other Faculties in the following year, too, both for the graduate qualification examinations and current knowledge testing for certain courses.

In addition, Rouben Mirzakhanyan assured that meetings with students proved that including the subject “Pedagogy” into the examination ticket still remained problematic; the subject was studied in the first year, while the examination was taken in the final year. Taking into consideration the successful experience of the Department of Pedagogy of the University of Oulu in Finland steps will be undertaken to pay more attention on the internship and to exchange its score with the question in the subject of “Pedagogy”.

“Internships are not on the necessary level for us; there still continue to be manifestations that hinder having objective image thereon”, the Rector observed and added that first and foremost they should exclude the habit of spending the internship in institutions that were close to the places they lived, and to narrow down the scope of schools receiving internships.

In the process of improving the internship the Rector strongly emphasized the importance of the activities of Chairs of teaching methodologies highlighting that the internship was the practical manifestation of pedagogical methods i.e. how students conduct lessons, deliver the material, etc.

Similarly, the Rector urged to discuss the steps aimed at improving the internship during the Chair sessions, to listen to lecturers’ opinions and to develop a common approach thereabout once again reminding that any new method not having passed piloting has a hard a path to cover.

The Head of the Chair of Informatics and its Teaching Methods Hamlet Harutyunyan spoke about the new method of holding examinations mentioning that the most important privilege for students is transparency and knowing the mark on the spot. Besides, the Head of the Chair assured that the new electronic method was a wide-spread format all over the world that gave the opportunity to hold examinations in compliance to the approved regulations.

Further on, the Lecturer of the Chair of Informatics and its Teaching Methods Samvel Asatryan practically introduced the new electronic examination form developed and programmed by the ASPU BA students.

The next question on the agenda of the meeting referred to the implementation plan of the University’s development strategic activity plan regarding which the Head of the Department of Education Reforms and Quality Mkrtich Avagyan introduced to the Heads of Chairs with the compliance thereof to the strategic plan mentioning that each problem was reviewed from the perspective of the final result by clarified assessment effectiveness indicators.
