KHACHATUR ABOVYAN ARMENIAN STATE PEDAGOGICAL UNIVERSITY

A training course for foreign language teachers is underway at Armenian State Pedagogical University these days which is attended by Asya Tonoyan, a lecturer of the ASPU Chair of Foreign Language Teaching, and Ruzanna Asatryan, Assistant Professor of the Chair of Romance and Germanic Languages.

At the end of the training course organized by AELTA (Armenian-English Language Teachers' Association) in collaboration with the U.S. Embassy in Armenia, the ASPU lecturers will receive the right to organize trainings themselves.

Talking to old.aspu.am, Anahit Lalabegyan, Head of the Chair of Foreign Language Teaching, said membership to international organizations and participation in such trainings better the quality of foreign language teaching and promote the exchange of practice.

“The course enables specialists to teach students and pupils to think, to make analyzes and conclusions. Teachers from different regions of the country have the opportunity to establish contact with each other, study new approaches to teaching methods and later use them in their work,” Anahit Lalabegyan said adding that MA students were also involved in the course.

She stressed that the training course was a unique opportunity to deepen cooperation between the university and schools, and strengthen the ties between English language teachers.

Ruzanna Astryan, a training specialist from AELTA, added in turn that in addition to 40 school teachers they also involved in the training course lecturers of the Faculty of Foreign Languages for whom the course was a good opportunity to get acquainted with new methods.

“Group work… The use of new techniques and tools… Skills to work with students and pupils... During the two-day training, the lecturers and teachers also used their theoretical knowledge in practice,” Ruzanna Asatryan said.
Representatives of AELTA were also present at the training course.
