By a decision of the ASPU Scientific Council, ASPU Rector Srbuhi Gevorgyan has awarded Hamlet Mikaelyan, Professor of the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Informatics, with the highest award of the Pedagogical University - "Khachatur Abovyan" medal for his significant contributions to science and pedagogy․

Professors Tigran Ayvazyan, Alexander Ghushchyan, Gurgen Ghulghazaryan, Associate Professors Artur Tadevosyan and Samvel Asatryan were awarded with the "Pedagogical University" medal for their significant contributions to the development of higher education and outstanding merit in educating and rearing of younger generations.

A group of lecturers of the same Faculty received certificates of appreciation and honour for the conscientious and efficient performance of their professional activities.

In her speech, Rector Srbuhi Gevorgyan stresses that the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Informatics has a special role and importance in the life of the University; even today the scientists of the Faculty continue the best traditions of their predecessors in the field of science.

The ASPU rector says there are many problems in the field which are universal and have a direct connection with schools. She hopes that the programmes the University has submitted to the Government will effectively solve a number of priorities which are directly related to the development of field specialists and their capability improvement. "Physics and mathematics are the fields that also determine the development of an individual's logic, way of thinking and judgments, as well as a number of socialization issues, which are the key to having a strong school. In this context, teaching methods and ways should be clear and measurable, and the University’s number one task should be to strengthen the new vision of pedagogy development and teaching methods,” the rector said.

Srbuhi Gevorgyan added that the Faculty has always been had bright professionals endowed with analytical skills, whose activity would bring honour to the scientific potential of any university. “A number of problems [in the sphere] will be solved thanks to specialists in physics and mathematics. Those qualitative changes will find their expression in schools as well,” she stressed.

Gagik Demirkhanyan, Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Informatics, added, in turn, that the Faculty which opened 12 years after the establishment of the University, has no shortage of devotees.

He says the problems existing in the field of natural science are nationwide: over time, the development of the sector has been neglected and pushed into the background for various reasons.

He is sure that thanks to the scientific-educational and teaching potential of the Faculty there will still be bright days in the field of science.
