“There is just a century dividing us from the establishment of our First Republic. Since then generations have changed, lots of things have changed, but the problems and multiple questions remained the same; and we continue being the same nation with our complexes, contradictions, positive and negative manifestations”, mentioned the ASPU Rector Rouben Mirzakhanyan during the opening ceremony of the Republican Conference dedicated to the 100th anniversary of establishment of the First Republic of Armenia.
The Rector valued the establishment of the first Republic, emphasizing that we needed to gain lessons from the past, to study them, make correct conclusions for the prosperity of their motherland.
Among the participants of the conference organized by the initiative of the ASPU Chair of Theory and History of Pedagogy, the Chair of Professional Education and Applied Pedagogy and the “Spyurq”[Diaspora] research centre there were representatives both from the APSU and other Universities.
In their report they spoke not only about the actuality of historical and political significance of the Republic, and the preconditions of formation of political culture of the public figures of the times and reasons of their fall, but also discussed literary –cultural and linguistic questions.
The Director of the RA NAS Institute of Literature Studies after M.Abeghyan Mr. Vardan Devrikyan highlighted the organisation of the conference from several perspectives, as in addition to literature and linguistic issues, they also discussed historical and pedagogical topics.
“History is alive and therefor it is extremely important to examine the reasons of the fall of the First Republic. We have always thought that it fell because of external strokes, but in fact the country was being ruined internally, too, and that laid the road for the enemy”, mentioned Professor Devrikyan and assured that such thorough discussion of the past teachers that each and every of us should even more strengthen our country from where we are, give meaning to the past and present.
The Head of the “Sqyurq” [Diaspora] Research Centre, Professor Souren Danielyan in his turn added that the retrospective evaluation of the First Republic was of educative and cognitive nature.
“We passed the road full of mistakes but we preserved the orientation from the first Republic to the true return of independence”, mentioned Mr. Souren Danielyan and congratulated all present on the century –old history of the First Republic wishing the most important- belief for the following day.
The conference continued its activities in two groups and with the conclusion of their results.
