The oldest book dating back to1930 is written by Professor Gurgen Edilyan. The most recent book -"Forensic Examination" is written by Ruzanna Petrosyan, Leon Sargsyan and Stepan Navasardyan. Also, among the exhibits, one could find books by well-known psychologists, among them Mkrtich Mazmanyan, Hovsep Tutunjyan, Sergey Arzumanyan, Karlen Voskanyan, Srbuhi Gvorgyan, Vladimir Karapetyan, Samvel Khudoyan, Mels Mkrtumyan, Vazgen Margaryan, Susanna Pilosyan, Kamo Vardanyan, Albert Nalchajyan, Ruzanna Petrosyan, former and current lecturers of the Chair of Psychology.
Tigran Petrosyants, Director of the ASPU Library, presented the history of establishment and development of psychology in the University, the chronology of the formation of the profession, lecturers of different years and their fruitful activity.
Professor Srbuhi Gorgyan, a graduate of the same faculty, now the ASPU Rector, remembered all great people, hailed their contribution to the development of different branches of the highly important field at ASPU, and thanked them for passing on to next generations solid foundations and high standards of pedagogy and psychology.
The Doctor of Psychology confesses that during the years of study she felt the influence of the field's giants and the founders of the psychological school on the formation of his personality, development of her own style in the professional field.
Srbuhi Gevorgyan particularly emphasized the activity of the psychology lab in the history of the university, which is already 100 years old, and added that today that mission is continued by the cognitive psychology research group of the ASPU “Chess” Scientific Research Institute.
The ASPU rector advised future psychologists to properly assess the learning opportunities available for them: they can get acquainted with the works of famous authors in the original, make the outline of their professional growth and development. After all, psychology is a system of certain scientific approaches based on subjective perceptions, where everybody will have an opportunity to have their say and influence,” she said.
Srbuhi Gevorgyan highly assessed the work of Ruzanna Petrosyan, Dean of the Faculty of Education Psychology and Sociology, Candidate of Psychological Sciences, Associate Professor, in providing students with the necessary professional manuals and having the material available at the Faculty as well.
By the way, the exhibition organized by the Scientific Library also included the Armenian and English issues of the conference on psychological issues organized at ASPU in 2010-2019, and journal “Main Issues in Pedagogy and Psychology.”
Prof. Kamo Vardanyan, Head of the ASPU Research Center, Doctor of Psychology, said that the exhibition is a lookback of the past 100 years, a period during which the Pedagogical University prospered and different directions were formed within its walls.
Kamo Vardanyan considers the multi-thematic and multi-sectoral nature of the presented works to be important.
The professor says the Pedagogical University has made a great contribution to the formation and development of free and independent psychological thought. Throughout its history of one hundred years, it has had four generations of psychological thought. He is one of the representatives of the third generation.
Ruzanna Petrosyan, Dean of the Faculty of Education Psychology and Sociology, Candidate of Psychological Sciences, Associate Professor, assured the presentees that the structure she heads will not be satisfied with what it already has; new manuals will be ready by the end of the year, which will have their unique place in the field of psychology.
Prof. Vladimir Karapetyan, Head of the Chair of Preschool Pedagogy and Methodology, Doctor of Psychology, said that it is high time the Pedagogical University became a platform for scientific discussions based on the heritage in the multidisciplinary field.
He is sure that it is time to switch to evidence-based psychology; that is what the world dictates today.
In their speeches, acting heads of the Chair of Applied Psychology and Chair of Psychology, Marianna Avetisyan and Levon Sagsyan praised the activity of their predecessors, and considered joint team work important for the development of the sphere.
Hakob Tadevosyan, Associate Professor at the Chair of Pedagogy, is one of the first graduates of the Faculty of Psychology. The latter says he once appeared at the crossroads of psychology and pedagogy and had the honor of taking lessons from great people in the sphere of psychological science.
Hakob Tadosyan also considers Professor Srbuhi Gevorgyan’s role invaluable in terms of introducing a psychological component in the sphere of public administration, particularly in the civil service. The profession of a psychologist not only provides professional knowledge, skills and abilities, but also prepares a person for active life and growth.
Doctor of Philology, Professor Lalik Khachatryan says while studying he did not realize the importance of Psychological Science, the subject, its depth and ability to penetrate to the inner world of a person. Meanwhile, the Roman school is based on a close relationship between students and psychology.
The linguist states that psychology is the basis of the origin of language, and psychology ‘gives food to’ linguistics. He cited the establishment of a number of branches and theories in the field of psychology as Evidence of his words.
Summing up the event, Director of the ASPU Scientific Library Tigran Petrosyants considered it a unique open lesson, which will give students some knowledge and will help them in the learning process. In their speeches, the students confirmed the opinion.
