‘Road’ from school to university

"In these decisive days, many values are presented in a different light. It is historians and social scientists who should present the national and historical truth to society," Edgar Hovhannisyan, Dean of the Faculty of History and Social Sciences, said during the meeting with first-year students on September 1 – Day of Knowledge and Schooling. He added that those specialists should also have a balancing mission in society.

The dean of the Faculty and the heads of the chairs presented to the freshmen the peculiarities of the educational system, the assessment and online system, and emphasized the importance of academic achievements and profound knowledge.

They stressed that in the 21st century there is no place for a specialist with average abilities; only a specialist armed with rich knowledge, skills and qualifications can be competent and competitive.

The ASPU representatives added that especially now that there are many problems in the education system students should surpass the previous generations; it is in the logic of developments.

“September 1, which is marked as Day of Knowledge and Schooling, is exciting," said Edik Gevorgyan, Acting Professor at the Chair of Armenian History.

He says everyone will remember themselves in the first grade, sitting at the desk. For several decades now, they have been lucky enough to congratulate freshmen and wish them a successful start to the academic year. "Today the whole world is experiencing socio-political upheavals. In this period of life, we will at least feel satisfied if our graduates become good experts in various fields with a national mindset. Today, there is indifference in society towards national issues. In this context, we have a lot to do to break that stereotype. I think our university and faculty have the potential to implement that task."

Professor Khachatur Stepanyan, Head of the Chair of World History and its Teaching Methods, Doctor of Historical Sciences, advises the first-year students to read a lot, live in an educational environment, and learn as much as possible from the university – acquire knowledge, experience and friends, and become teachers who truly fulfill their mission in our country. "September 1 is not only a day of knowledge, but also the beginning of a new life, a road from school to university."

Wishes on the occasion of the day were also expressed in the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Informatics.

Dean of the Faculty Gagik Demirkhanyan congratulated the freshmen and once again emphasized specialties’ role and importance in the field of natural sciences and mathematics.

He advised the students to continue showing excellent academic performance, adding that scholarships will be increased based on the results of the previous academic year.

Artur Tadevosyan, Head of the Chair of Informatics and its Teaching Methods, reminded once again that it is difficult to imagine the modern world without information and digital technologies. The most rapidly developing, demanded and popular professions in the 21st century represent this very field.

Later, the students got acquainted with the activity of the faculty and its chairs, the educational system and started studies according to the timetable.

The Faculty of Biology, Chemistry and Geography is ready to do everything possible to educate high-quality specialists. The faculty representatives assured the students on the first day of the meeting that they will help and support them, transferring their knowledge.

Dean of the Faculty Ruzanna Sadoyan welcomed the first-year students and congratulated them on choosing specialties of vital importance.

She wished the students good luck and said that all specialties of the Faculty are interesting, related to life and nature.

She added that student years will fly by very quickly. Meanwhile, the most important thing [for them] to do is study well, arm themselves with knowledge and get ready to join the big family of the

Faculty and become a part of the big teaching army.
