Round –Table Discussion Regarding the Sphere of Special Education

The academic staff of the ASPU Faculty of Special Education had a workshop with the professional team of the Yerevan Psychological–Pedagogical Assessment Centre.

The aim of the meeting was to discuss the assessment formats that were developed based on the International Classification of Functioning /ICF/, which had been preliminarily sent to the Faculty’s staff to get professional opinion, relevant remarks and feedback.

The Acting Dean of the Faculty of Special Education Siranush Karapetyan introduced the main issues and challenges of the field stressing out the importance of the University- Assessment Centre and practitioners’ relations.

The special education professionals introduced their remarks on the format.

Among those present at the meeting was the Head of the Department of Development Programmes of the RA Ministry of Education and Science Robert Stepanyan.

The latter highlighted the importance of cooperation with the Faculty of Special Education considering it as the academic and scientific pillars for practitioners.

Likewise, Robert Stepanyan observed that without them it would be impossible to carry out proper assessment of children’s needs, which in itself served as a significant ground to ensure educational processes for them within the scope of secondary or inclusive education.

And last but not least, the expert-advisor of the Assessment Centre Varduhi Katinyan expressed acknowledgements for useful observations and discussions expressing the hope for a closer cooperation between the professionals’ team of the Yerevan Psychological –Pedagogical Assessment

Centre and the teaching staff of the Faculty of Special Education.
