Elections

The Pedagogical University’s Academic Board session started with elections. The Chairmen of the competition committee for humanitarian and natural sciences fields Aelita Dolukhanyan and Mezhlum Yeritsyan introduced the four candidates for the vacant positions of Heads of Chair.

In their speeches the Chairmen spoke about the pedagogical and scientific activities of the candidates, and the University’s Rector Rouben Mirzakhanyan emphasized the immense merit and contribution in the scientific and educational life of the University.

In the hidden ballot the Board members re- elected the international Grand Master Smbat Lputyan as the Head of the Chair of Chess and Sports, and the Doctor of Psychology, Professor Samvel Khudoyan was elected as the Head of the Chair of Applied Psychology.

The vacant positions of the Head of the Chair of English Language Teaching, Physics and its Teaching Methods will be assumed by the former Heads of Chairs, Candidate of Pedagogy Anahit Lalabegyan and Doctor of Physics and Mathematics Eduard Kokanyan.

Likewise, eight candidates received the academic title of Candidate during the Academic Board session.

About Science
“In our days, the role of research universities is very important, there, dynamic scientific activities are carried out parallel to educational processes, efficient productive turnover of results, as well as training and preparing specialists in compliance with the contemporary requirements”, the ASPU Vice-Rector introduced the process of organizing the University’s research and publishing workflow. In addition, the Vice Rector thoroughly explained the research and scientific-methodological activities carried out in six fields at the ASPU Faculties and the University Chairs, likewise, she presented the number of published research papers, international conferences, training programmes conducted during the previous year.

What is more, Srbouhi Gevrogyan considered it primary to create joint modern inter-research laboratories, generating programs in arts and humanities within the scope of network universities, implementation and development thereof.

“For the discussion and evaluation of research outcomes generated for partner universities and research centres it is necessary to create common scientific journals or to continue to internationalise the existing ones, mentioned the reporter.

In his turn, the Rector Rouben Mirzakhanyan highlighted the positive changes in the field of science, after which spoke about the ASPU scientific journals’ activities, outlining their major breakthrough in the current academic year.

The Head of the University called for other journals to follow the example of the journal “Imastutyun”[Wisdom], which had already been registered in prestigious international scientific databases.

The Academic Board considered the process of carrying out the research topics financed by the state budget as satisfactory, and decided to encourage the projects to be implemented with international institutions and to foster participation of MA, PhD students and Applicants.

Likewise, the Board decided to also contribute to the active publishing of articles by the University’s teaching-professorial staff in international peer –reviewed journals, to raise the quality of professional training sessions organized at the University.

ASPU Strategic Plan
The report on “Implementation of the Strategic Plan of the University” was presented by the Head of Department for Education Reforms and Quality Assurance Mkrtich Avagyan. He referred to the ASPU strategic plan arrangement, its main directions, management concept, scope of implementation, explained in details the process of carrying out the strategy.

“The ASPU Strategic Plan and Action Plan are connected to the RA Ministry of ES programme on Education Development in the RA with their key concepts. All subdivisions discussed, drafted and approved their action plans in compliance with the University’s Strategic Plan”, noticed Mkrtich Avagyan.

Likewise, the latter added that a clear connection had been set between the strategic and operational /annual/ plans which was, in fact, the most important component of the strategic plan and was aimed at long-term objectives for the APSU.

The Academic Board considered the process of performance of activities foreseen for 2016 out of the ASPU development strategic plan 2016-2020 as satisfactory. Besides, the Board approved the revised procedure of planning, implementing and monitoring that performance, forms of accountability for faculties, chairs, departments /self-analysis and self-assessment/, as well as the 2017 plan deriving from the above-mentioned plan.

Current Issues
The Vice –Rector for Academic Affairs Srbouhi Gevorgyan introduced and the Academic Board approved three and reapproved five Candidate Theses and guaranteed the printing of the submitted manual.

The Vice –Rector for Educational Processes Mher Melick-Bakhshyan presented, and the Academic Board approved the pricelist for charged services provided by the University including the graduation certificates and ratification fees.

Similarly, the paid courses in accordance to the academic programmes and the tuition fees for the academic year 2017-2018 were also approved by the Board.

During the session, Rouben Mirzakhanyan granted certificates to one Professor and two Associate Professors, and congratulated those who had anniversaries on that day.
