“Russian Poets about Armenia”

“Armenia has been in the core of attention of Russian poets even since the 18th century; art and literature classics wrote about our country, they were inspired by it and expressed their love towards it. And today, in these difficult times for Armenia, it is worth once again speaking about and recalling those frank and cordial words that were mentioned and written about us”, the ASPU students mentioned at the literary-musical matinee organised by the initiative of the Faculty of Foreign Languages Chair of Russian Language.

At the event headed “Russian Poets about Armenia” poems by Bulat Okudzhava, Sergey Gorodetsky, Valery Bryusov, Osip Mandelstam, Vassili Diatchenko, Mikhail Matusovsky, Vera Zvyagintseva, and other talented poets were presented.

Moreover, a few days ago the Moscow House organised a competition with the same name, where the ASPU students Sirusho Hovhannisyan and Rima Hovhanyan won prizes.

In fact, many Russian poets had visited Armenia, had lived, and created inspired by our country. One of the greatest essay writers of the 20th century, Osip Mandelstam was not an exception; in his work “Journey in Armenia” he confessed that only after feeling the ancient Armenian cultural environment creative lethargy can come over.

“Whoever visited Armenia, always stay with it”, “Armenia- the love of my life” – these are not just words, these are the words of the intellectuals, who knew the Armenian history and were able to praise the values.

“Europe remembers Armenians only when they need to be saved from genocide. While taking into consideration the universal values created by Armenians, they should be remembered all around the world and always”, the students mentioned in their speech, also citing from Maxim Gorky.

Guitar, duduk, kamancheh; famous works by Sayat-Nova and Komitas were also performed during the event to reaffirm the universal and historical values of the Armenian nation once again.

“Armenia and Armenian people have suffered a lot, but they were always reborn. It is impossible not to love this country”, mentioned the Head of the Chair of Russian Language at the end of the event and awarded the participants with certificates and books.

Among the guests of the event were the representatives of the Stavropol State Pedagogical University, who highly praised the event which once again confirmed the long-term friendship between the Armenian and Russian people.
