A series of events initiated by the Chair of Russian Language started at the ASPU which aim to involve students in different initiatives dedicated to the traditions of different nations of the world.
The first such event was organized by Diana Ghazaryan, a lecturer of the Chair of Russian Language, who celebrated the festival of Maslenitsa (Shrovetide) together with second-year students of the Faculty of Primary Education.
With the help of students, a luxury feast typical of the holiday was organized on the occasion, with traditional Russian pancakes, honey and various kinds of jam adorning the table.
The students had also made a scarecrow, another symbol of the holiday, which was solemnly burnt at the end of the week, according to the Russian tradition. It is an established ritual to say farewell to winter and to welcome spring. The Maslenitsa week was celebrated with great fanfares and enthusiasm. Students from other faculties also joined the celebrations.
Talking to old.aspu.am, students of the Faculty of Primary Education said they would never forget their first celebration of Maslenitsa and promised to remember the Russian holiday every year.
The Chair of Russian Language will organize more events of this kind in the future. The objective is to promote multicultural development of students.
