Samvel Sevada opens exhibition at ASPU

“Virgo Constellation” — this is the title of the exhibition featuring the paintings by Associate Professor of the Chair of Camera work and Artistic Photography of the Faculty of Culture at the Armenian State Pedagogical University (ASPU), Merited Artist of the Republic of Armenia Samvel Sevada. Among the titles of the paintings are “Your Enameled Profile”, “The Last Night”, “Idyll”, “The Mystery of Light”, “Blue Girl” and more; the artist’s 25 recent works (landscapes, portraits, still life paintings with interesting syntheses of images) are presented at the University.

Among those attending the exhibition were the University’s administration and professors, students, guests and fans of Samvel Sevada’s art.

ASPU Rector Srbuhi Gevorgyan noted that even though Samvel Sevada is better known for his photos, today’s exhibition helps show another side of his creative talent that he has managed to convey while showing the objective reality.

The Rector expressed gratitude to painter, photographer and poet Samvel Sevada, who, through his many creations and missions, ensures people’s emotional state, shows the reality and compels one to acknowledge, respect, love his talent and transmit it to the generations. Srbuhi Gevorgyan didn’t hide the fact that she has been touring the exhibition hall for two consecutive days and has not only become familiar with the exhibited works, but has also received warmth and seen the artist’s abilities to show color, values, the homogeneity of perception, to reject the reality and to inspire.

Dean Gevorg Tadevosyan noted that the Faculty of Culture has always stood out with talented creators and, according to him, one of the masters is Samvel Sevada.

The artist, who spent a part of his life and studied at the Armenian State Pedagogical University 60 years ago, admits that this is where he fell in love for the first time and where he became established as a specialist. Even today, he relives the memories of the past with warmth and emotions. Sevada doesn’t think it is by chance that the main characters in his paintings are women and believes that the month dedicated to women is not a month, but rather endless. Samvel Sevada mentioned that he prepares for all of his exhibitions with a high sense of responsibility so that students see and learn and added that his only dispute with them is to make sure that they are close to the arts.

Among the attendees was President of “Shirak” Compatriotic Union Varazdat Harutyunyan (Samvel Sevada is also a member of the presidency of the Union). The President of the Union notes that Armenia’s Shirak Province is rich in artists and that Samvel Sevada is an Armenian who brilliantly continues the traditions and deserves appreciation. “His roots trace back to Shirak Province, but wherever he has gone in life, he has left a deep and indelible trace. He shows his special talent in all directions — it is photography, which requires a keen eye; it is poetry with its depths; on Facebook, he shows the Armenian people, his lifestyle and his attitude towards today’s reality,” Harutyunyan said.

Professor of the Chair of Mathematics and its Teaching Methods Hamlet Mikayelyan described Samvel Sevada as a serious phenomenon in the life of Armenian society, with all the colors that he uses to create his paintings.
