Scholarships for Future Pedagogues

The Pedagogical University welcomed the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Embassy of Germany in Armenia Mr. Matthias Kiesler, who came to award certificates to sixteen students having received scholarships.

The Land of Hessen determined a scholarship (SUR-PLACE) of up to 800 Euro one-off payment for each beneficiary for the academic year 2017-2018, aiming to support socially vulnerable students.

The project considered the students’ academic progress and social activity, and the selection was made at the Faculty of Foreign Languages, taking into account a number of requirements for participation in the competition, particularly knowledge of German language on professional or non-professional levels.

The Rector of the Pedagogical University Rouben Mirzakhanyan expressed his acknowledgments for this warm welcome at the University and highlighted that serious attention was paid to quality teaching of German language as a first foreign language.

The Rector assured that a highly professional group of lecturers was teaching German, and that a major part of the students were coming from the RA regions, where the practice of teaching German as a foreign language was mostly preserved.

“The Pedagogical University holds the monopoly of teaching a number of courses, particularly in the area of special pedagogy, which is also a point of interest for the Federal Republic of Germany”, mentioned Rouben Mirzakhanyan.

Likewise, the Rector referred to the Pedagogical University’s international cooperation policy and expressed a hope for Mr. Matthias Kiesler to support the Armenian –German cooperation in the areas of education and development, as a friend of the Country and the University. The Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany Mr. Matthias Kiesler congratulated the winners of the scholarships and added that he was pleased to visit the Pedagogical University.

“Throughout my practice, I have always highly appreciated the Armenian – German relations as the expanded cooperation in the area of education has also been very important for our country” mentioned the Ambassador and brought a few examples of successful cooperation.
In fact, Mr. Matthias Kiesler considers himself as the friend of our country and our University, and adds that the three-year work experience in Armenia has proved that there is a great scientific and academicals potential here.

“During my tenure the Armenian-German relations have reached to a high level particularly in the spheres of education and science”, mentioned the Ambassador and gladly noticed that the German experts highly assessed the level of teachers’ professionalism at schools teaching German language, as well as they stated that the teaching practice of German was on a proper level; moreover, according to them teaching foreign languages at schools is directly proportional to the quality of teachers in question.

And last but not least, Mr. Matthias Kiesler congratulated the students and gladly noted that a big number of students was able to overcome the rather tough requirements of the competition to be selected as one of the best.
