The Scientific Council of Armenian State Pedagogical University has held its last meeting for the 2022-2023 academic year.
ASPU Vice-Rector for Education Naira Safaryan presented the results of degree certification of ASPU graduates, noting that 1413 students participated in the process.
The vice-rector added that they had considered the observations and proposals of the chairmen and members of the examination commissions, and then focused on some key issues.
Naira Safaryan emphasized the relevance of dissertation topics, presence of pedagogical and psychological problems in them, and suggested introducing a a multi-factor differentiated assessment system in the certification process. “It is necessary to make the research process more visible, to combine it with the results of research practice and to work more intensively with students, paying special attention to the teaching methods of the subject matter," she said.
The Scientific Council proposed to discuss the observations and recommendations in the meetings of the Faculties and Chairs, and to present proposals on making additions to the procedure for conducting degree certification of graduates.
Samvel Asatryan, Head of the Department for Educational Processes Management and Reforms, presented ASPU’s strategic plan, dwelling on some important issues: quality teaching and research activity, improvement of management processes, management and development of human resources, career management, international cooperation, quality assurance, etc. He also spoke about the directions, problems, mission, objective and goals of the strategic plan and assured the Council that clear, measurable and realistic goals have been presented. Also, an action plan has been developed and approved considering responsible persons and target groups.
In his speech, Samvel Asatryan also referred to ASPU’s mission and said that the observations made by experts in the previous accreditation process have been taken into account. The working group has revised the mission of the professional educational institution, specifying the fields of its activity, qualifications and teaching methods. Along with improvement of modern educational infrastructures, the university plans to develop and expand e-learning systems. Several problems have already been identified, also important and ambitious actions have been defined. After their implementation, we will have effective e-education and wide use of electronic management systems," Mr. Asatryan said adding that if the aforesaid goals are fulfilled, we will have a qualitatively new university, with a modernized environment and future-oriented education.
ASPU Rector Srbuhi Gevorgyan presented her viewpoints and observations on the issues under discussion, emphasizing once again that the Pedagogical University must remain faithful to its mission, preservation of national values and the Armenian school, mastering of knowledge and skills; all these factors will determine the effectiveness of teaching. Today, formation of a new concept, study and observation of the research field are of primary importance for ASPU. There are a lot of expectations from the university, and we have a lot to do. We need to be equipped with the right tools, capabilities and accommodations to do modern research, solve problems and/or propose solutions. The strategic plan was drawn up considering all these issues: all our resources should be directed to the university's mission and the ability to solve today's education reform together," the professor said.
By secret ballot, the Scientific Council voted to award the title of Associate Professor to lecturers Tatev Gevorgyan (Chair of Teaching Foreign Languages), Aida Karapetyan (Chair of Mathematics and Elementary Teaching Methods) and Anna Simonyan (Chair of Preschool Education and Methodology).
The Scientific Council also approved theis topics for Ph.D. and Doctoral degree.
According to tradition, President of the Scientific Council, ASPU Rector Srbuhi Gevorgyan congratulated all those who are celebrating birthdays in June and wished the Scientific Council productive work, new professional and creative achievements in the new academic year.
