Scientific Session Dedicated to the 100th Anniversary of Silva Kaputikyan

By the joint initiative of the ASPU Faculty of Philology and the RA NAS Institute of Literature after M. Abeghyan and Silva Kaputikyan’s House Museum a scientific session dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the prominent Armenian poet Silva Kaputikyan was organised.

The literary heritage and public activities of the poet, the great patriot, publicists, children’s writer, translator and public figure were praised by the Director of the Institute of Literature after M. Abeghyan Mr. Vardan Devrikyan, the RA NAS Academician – Secretary of the Department of Armenian Studies and Social Sciences Mr. Yuri Suvaryan, the ASPU Dean of the Faculty of Philology Ashot Galstyan.

“Throughout all of her conscious life Silva Kaputikyan had been a certain standard for the society, a individual human, who, with her perceptions and understandings, opposed the injustices of the time but never the political individuals. By integrating her own life to the public, she also stated on the example of her own creations that poetry always evens out its way”, mentioned academician Yu. Suvaryan and reminded that Silva Kaputikyan was very active not only as a writer, but also as a public figure.

“The poet’s patriotic activities reached their peak during the Karabakh movement. Till the very end of her life she was saying her weighty speech as a patriotic citizen, concerned with the issues of her country”, added Yu Suvaryan.

Afterwards, the Head of the Chair of History of Armenian Literature after Academician H. Tamrazyan of the YSU Faculty of Armenian Philology, Doctor of Philology, Professor Samvel Muradyan added that the Yerevan State University was celebrating its 100th anniversary of establishment those days; Silva Kaputikyan was also from the YSU and of the same age.

“Kaputikyan was the poet of the multi-million population of the Soviet Union and every nation of that country had a cult of love towards her. First and foremost she was an Armenian poet, concerned about the troubles of her own country. Even today, the poet is alive with her messages, her motherly feeling of saving our nation from hardship and trials.

In his turn, the Dean of the ASPU Faculty of Philology Mr. Ashot Galstyan emphasized during his speech the literary world of the poet referring to the highlighted national description typical to her poetry and her political courage. Writing was a rapture for Silva Kaputikyan, it was her unique way of searching for spiritual horizons”.

Further on, reminiscences about the poet were shared, as well as the RA NAS Associate Member, Doctor-Professors of Philology Aelita Dolukhanyan, Azat Yeghiazaryan, the Director of Silva Kaputikyan’s House Museum, Candidates of Philology Armenouhi Demirchyan, Lilit Hovsepyan, Ruzan Doloukhanyan, Gayaneh Mardyan, Gayaneh Hakobyan, Maya Grigoryan, and Davit Gyulzadyan presented their speeches and reports about Silva Kaputikyan.

“She was a writer, a unique publicists and public speaker with strong talent, and I will not exaggerate if I say that she was the most famous Armenian poet of the 20th century”, noted Professor Aelita Doloukhanyan and presented her report headed “The Caravans are still Following and the Medieval Armenian writings”, where she mentioned that in that work, the poet continuously advises to be hard-working, to strive to imitate the best features of other nations, and at the same time remain deeply nationalistic.

In addition, articles by the lecturers of the ASPU Chair of Armenian Ancient, Medieval Literature and its Teaching Methods referred to the connection of the poet’s lyrical poetry to the medieval lyrical poetry, the poetry by S. Kaputikyan, here children’s books and their educative value, her publicity features and public dissemination.

The Lecturers of the ASPU Faulty of Philology, Chair of Ancient and Medieval Armenian Literature and its Teaching Methods presented the jubilee collection of articles headed “Pedagogical and Moral Lessons by Silva Kaputikyan” on her 100th anniversary.

“The start of the events, organised on the 100th anniversary of Silva Kaputikyan has been set”, stated the participants of the scientific session, “a start where the greatest poet of the 20th century should receive her deserved continuity”.
