Series of lectures starts at Faculty of Special Education

At the initiative of Armenian State Pedagogical University (ASPU) and UNICEF, Lilith Assadourian, First 5 Fresno County Program and Evaluation Director, delivered a lecture at the Faculty of Special Education, ASPU.

The specialist considered her visit to ASPU symbolic, stressing that her parents were graduates of the University.

In her report entitled “Research and Monitoring of Children with Developmental Disorders,” she emphasized the importance of evaluation of child's development, noting that it would help to formulate a correct and individualized approach, recognition and education of children and their families.

It will also help understand the child's abilities and skills, according to his/her age.
“When we talk about the development of young children, it is necessary to consider children's evaluation criteria: it also enables parents to know their child/children. We cannot speak about child's development without the direct participation of the parents, therefore, a close cooperation is required,” she stressed.

The lecture aroused great interest among the audience and was followed by a Q&A session.

In her speech, Dean of the Faculty of Special Education Armenuhi Avagyan stressed the importance of the internationalization of the University and said a series of lectures is planned from 4 to 14 October. The lectures will be delivered by representatives of the University of Minnesota and Lyon Neuroscience Research Center. “The series of lectures and scientific events is dedicated to the 5th anniversary of the Faculty and will be useful as it will provide exchange of experience and knowledge. The initiative creates a good opportunity for graduates to establish continuous communication with their peers and discuss issues of the sector,” she said adding that the results would be summed up at an international workshop.

The lecture was attended by lecturers of the Faculty of Special Education, students and graduates, specialists of the sector, as well as Marion Karian, Advisor at Dean's Council of the University of California on Health and Human Resources issues and a member of the Renaissance Scholars Advisory Board (RSAB).
