Sevak Hovhannisyan named Best Reader of ASPU

The results of the Best Reader awards ceremony held for the 8th year in a row were summarized at the reading hall of the ASPU Scientific Library on December 21.

Stressing the importance of the event, ASPU Vice-Rector Srbuhi Gevorgyan said that in the age of Information Technology, the number of book lovers increases year by year. “The meeting with books and the path with them is a unique key to penetrate into new layers of knowledge, it is a mysterious world with which it is not only mysterious and interesting to communicate but it is also important for the formation of personality,” the vice-rector said wishing the best readers of the University new journeys to the wonderful world of books.

Tigran Petrosyants, the Director of the ASPU Scientific Library, referred to the statistics of 2017, noting that the library has 4 million items – 100 books per student, but the statistics changes in the case of the best readers as they have quantitative advantage.

This year, the innovation of the Best Reader competition was that apart from the BA students of the University and pupils of the primary and high schools, there were also MA students among the participants.

Sevak Hovhannisyan, a second-year MA student of the Faculty of Philology, was named the Best Reader of 2017. After graduating with honours from Yerevan State Conservatory, Sevak decided to complete a Master’s degree programme at ASPU.

Sevak received a tablet by the ASPU Rector and 12 volumes of the Armenian Encyclopedia.

Genya Ghrmajyan (a third-year student of the Faculty of History), Susanna Sultanyan (a third-year student of the Faculty of Educational Psychology and Sociology), Tatevik Yenokyan (a third-year student of the Faculty of Biology, Chemistry and Geography), Amalya Melkonyan (a third-year student of the Faculty of Culture), Nane Petrosyants (a first-year student of the Faculty of Foreign Languages), Astghik Harutyunyan (a third-year student of the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Informatics), Hellada Yeghnazaryan (a second-year student of the Art Education), Gohar Yenokyan (a third-year student of the Faculty of Primary Education), Tatevik Sayadyan (a third-year student of the Faculty of Special Education) and Mary Muradyan (a third-year student of the Faculty of Special Education) were named Best Readers of their faculties.

Sona Hovsepyan (a ninth-form pupil) and Ashot Vanoyan (an eleventh-form pupil) were named the best readers among their peers.

The deans of the faculties, deputy deans, principals of the ASPU Primary and High Schools, parents and family members congratulated the best readers, while Archimandrite Ter-Torgom conveyed his blessing.

The authors of the most read books were Julietta Gyulumyan, Doctor of Pedagogy, and Albert Nalchajyan, a psychologist. Their books had been asked for 16 000 and 26 000 times, respectively.
