The International Day of Logopaedics was marked at the Pedagogical University with a rich professional programme organized by the initiative of the Department of Logopaedics and Rehabilitation Therapy of the Special Education Faculty; this year too, the participants of the event were students, lecturers, invited logopaedists from medical and educational institutions of the country.
The novelty of this year were logopedic readings, during which the lecturers of the Department made interesting reports about the field of study presenting the observations of the prominent Armenians about the basics and source of Logopaedics, the forms of existence of a language as manifestations of oral and written speech, as well as modern issues of Logopaedics in Armenia and Development tendencies, winning over the stereotypes with the help of children’s literature; likewise a reflection was made on the participation of the Department representatives in the symposiums made in Moldova and Poland.
Staying true to the tradition, this year, too, the logopaedists not only informed but also thoroughly presented different kinds of deviations of speech; the main subject was tachylalia – the generic term for pathologic rapid tempo of speech and its general forms of manifestations.
“The reasons for the “tachylalia”(origin. from Greek) is heredity, the overloaded tension on the nervous system to the braking process, the insufficient functioning of the system, imitation/ rapid speakers among the close environment of the child,” the students mentioned during the event after which they distributed information notes and crowded areas of Yerevan.
What is more, on the International Day of Logopaedics the Department announced a competition on the topic “The Planet of Logopaedics” within the framework of which a written piece in verse or prose on the subject in question was required.
As a result, there were two winners –the Lecturers of the Department Astghik Grigoryan and the Logopaedist of the Lernagog region Elmira Gharibyan, in addition, the winners prepared a special wall- paper headed “Who are Logopaedists?”.
Speaking about the shortcomings in the field the Head of the Department of Logopaedics and Rehabilitation Therapy highlighted the importance of logopedic system and expansion of services, frequency of trainings, replenishment of textbooks and methodological material, as well as other literature in Armenian language.
“A lot of people think that Logopaedics is necessary only for kids; in fact, there are few specialists involved in the preschool system, but even less are there to work with the grownup”.
And last but not least, we would like to mention that in the course of this event we have been able to get introduced with the operations and activities implemented by the Department during the recent four years, the published books, academic manuals, monographs as well as various games developed by the lecturers and 4th year students of the Department about overcoming phonetic retardation.
