By the decision of the Council of Elders of Yerevan, the 7th Street in Davtashen Administrative District of Yerevan is now named after great Armenian film director, screenwriter and longstanding Head of the Chair of Direction at the Armenian State Pedagogical University Yuri Yerznkyan.
Yerznkyan has made invaluable contributions in the spheres of Armenian cinematography and pedagogy and educated dozens of generations of film directors.
During a conversation with old.aspu.am, Ruben Yerznkyan, the son of Yuri Yerznkyan, remarked that naming streets after the greats of the Armenian nation is a unique act of appreciating and valuing their merit. “Yuri Yerznkyan has made great contributions to the heritage of the century-old Armenian cinematography. Through this initiative, the generations will know about Yuri Yerznkyan, like the names of a number of great Armenians,” Ruben Yerznkyan remarked and expressed gratitude to Yerevan Municipality, which paid heed to this initiative of the Union of Cinematographers of Armenia.
The year 2023 marked the 100th birth anniversary of outstanding Armenian film director, screenwriter, Professor, People’s Artist of the Armenian Soviet Socialist Republic and recipient of the State Award Yuri Yerznkyan.
It was marked by a number of events, including the issuance of an anniversary postage stamp, the presentation of the book “Yuri Yerznkyan” (dedicated to Yuri Yerznkyan) and other events dedicated to the 100th birth anniversary.
