A student scientific forum headed “Disasters, epidemics, public health and education”, dedicated to the 100th anniversary of establishment of the University, took place at the Pedagogical University.
The event was initiated by the ASPU Chair of First Aid, Emergency, Civil Protection and the Chair of Ecology and Sustainable Development.
The forum aimed at offering a platform for scientific discussions to the students and alumni of the ASPU, who are conducting their activities in educational and scientific spheres.
The ASPU Rector Srbouhi Gevorgyan highlighted the importance of this event in terms of raising concerns and standing up for students’ opinions.
Professor Gevorgyan mentioned that the previous several years were difficult both for the country, as well as for the university; and in fact, the Chair of First Aid, Emergency, and Civil Protection was the pioneer, who provided a platform to discuss various social issues if any, to find various contextual solutions, to guide and to consult.
The leader of the University considered it quite interesting that parallel to the forum to be held at the ASPU, the Forum 405 of the "Teach for Armenia" Educational Foundation was officially launched, the purpose of which was to discuss educational guidance, innovation, development of education matters and their counteraction.
“Education is the most difficult sphere, where our accomplishments, victories, achievements, and failures start and end. The scientific inquisitorial thought is embedded in education, which you, dear students, are already developing today, adhering to this or that concept, presenting new concepts and justifying the expectations of the university”, mentioned Srbouhi Gevorgyan.
Furthermore, the Rector added that with its educational programmes, course descriptions, and student-cantered approach the University is willing to support students’ professional expectations and needs.
In addition, during the scientific forum, the students referred to education, particularly to arranging it in emergency conditions and ensuring its continuity, adaptation of school-children in post-war period, manifestation of various unhealthy coping mechanisms amongst the youth, cochlear implantation in the sphere of public education, the new Coronavirus pandemic (COVID -19) and mandatory remote education, assessment of dynamics and risks of disasters in the modern world. As well as, the peculiarities of use of modern injury means, the psychological security among the elderly, environmental security issues in the context of depiction of historical and cultural monuments, etc., were also presented.
The Head of the Chair of First Aid, Emergency, Civil Protection Narinei Sahakyan noted that it was not accidental that the forum was organised by the initiative of the two University Chairs, and that students’ reports were prepared within the scope of environmental security, emergency situations and education, psychological security, disasters and pandemics.
Moreover, Narinei Sahakyan noticed that the century-old University has educated many generations of pedagogues, who have maintained the scientific and educational progress of our country.
In addition, the latter highlighted the significance of the scientific forum and noticed that a platform was created for students, where their scientific research papers, their ideas and approaches were presented.
“This is important both in the sphere of academic science, and in pedagogical activities, where basic knowledge and ideas about science were required. As a matter of fact, disasters and epidemics have always created obstacles for education, and the issues raised herein are highly actual”, she added.
Furthermore, the Head of the Chair of Ecology and Sustainable Development Sirine Shogheryan outlined some of the presented topics, highly praising the research component therein and in some cases the effectiveness of studies conducted in corresponding laboratories of the university, which solved essential issues in the sphere of public education and might even change the quality of education.
Summing up, interesting discussions were held at the student scientific forum headed “Disasters, epidemics, public health and education”, which was wrapped up by a Q&A session.
