A solo exhibition of Academician Fayenberg Sargsyan, Professor at the Chair of Fine Arts of Armenian Sate Pedagogical University, opened at the Artists' Union of Armenia. The exhibition organized by the Pedagogical University is dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the artist.
The exhibition features some 55 works of the artist - self-portraits and still lifes, which show the painter’s perception of strength and beauty, struggle and reflections.
Karen Aghamyan, President of the Artists' Union of Armenia who also heads the Chair of Fine Arts at the ASPU, says ‘there is a fire, some internal energy, inside the gentle and modest person which is the reflection of Sargsyan’s nature in his works.’
“One of the main characteristics of a true artist is his personality, his perception of human beings and nature; his works reflect his ‘ego.’ This is a show of paintings which depicts the works of Fayenberg Sargsyan, one of the best representatives of modern Armenian painting,” said Professor Ara Hakobyan, Dean of the Faculty of Art Education. He added that the artworks fully reflect the artist’s style and his psychological approaches.
Commenting on the decision to exhibit the works of Fayenberg Sargsyan and his teacher Hovhannes Zardaryan under the same roof, Ara Hakobyan said, “One diamond gives birth to another diamond. This jubilee exhibition seems to have a logical continuation, because many of Sargsyan's pupils are now members of Artists' Union of Armenia.”
Sturdy drawing and solid colours… Ara Hakobyan says these are the peculiarities thanks to which the painter’s works reached their peak.
Writer and painter Arevshat Avagyan said in turn that Sargsyan's paintings are unique pieces of art. “His paintings have a unique sense of colour, line, surface and dimension. His paintings have something to convey; that is his inner world, his unique thinking.”
Suren Mamikonyan, Director of the International Academy of Education, said this exhibition differs from the previous exhibitions of the painter. “As a philosopher of life he goes ahead in search of the second half of life. Today, he has put on display part of his exquisitely made artworks. He has lived and stored up everything that he has seen. Today we have a chance to see what he has felt and experienced in his life,” Mr. Mamikonyan said.
He thinks that old and small nations should show their culture to the world; Fayenberg Sargsyan has his say in our culture.
“My works have been exhibited in Armenia and abroad. During every exhibition, special reference was made to the great energy and counsel of my paintings like a red thread. I want to transfer that energy to you for you to use it as a good weapon in your lives,” Fayenberg Sargsyan said.
Taking to old.aspu.am, the painter emphasized the role of his teacher Hovhannes Zardaryan who always supported him and guided him through his career.
