The Republican Pedagogy Olympiad for high-school students was summed up today. The Olympiad dedicated to the 100th anniversary of establishment of the ASPU was organized by the Chair of Pedagogy, which was held in three stages. 43 out of 350 students from different schools of the country passed the third stage, after which only three out of ten students selected among the 43 were selected as the best students.
As a matter of fact, on the third stage of the Olympiad the participants answered 10 questions about the 100 years of history of the Pedagogical University, on the second stage the participants proposed pedagogical situations from the school routine and offered solutions, and on the third stage the participants prepared public speeches on the topic “The 21st Century Teacher”.
The ASPU Rector Srbouhi Gevorgyan thanked the participants and the organizers of the Olympiad and spoke about the mission of the 100-year-old university, its jubilee slogans, planned events, and various forms of cooperation with schools.
“What you presented today was very important. More than 300 students shared with their ideas, their dreams, their images of a modern teacher’s capacity, which in fact is the mission of our university. Throughout a century, a huge arsenal was created offering education, teaching, interaction, psychological support, aimed at raising the potential of students and, looking into the issues related to organizing corresponding feedback in accordance with their personality. And even now, all of this is highly actual for today’s reality and for our university”, the Rector mentioned and assured that the students’ suggestions had been taken into account when compiling MA educational programmes.
In addition, Srbuhi Gevorgyan expressed her hope that some of the participants of the Olympiad would eventually become the students of the Pedagogical University, thereby having the opportunity to fulfill their expectations with regards to becoming a dream teacher with the capacity and practical skills just as they imagined.
“Today’s platform serves as a proof thereof, offering interaction, which will have highly effective quality for the educational system of Armenia”, added the Rector and awarded certificates and symbolic souvenirs to the high-school students.
Next, the Head of the Chair of Pedagogy, Professor Aida Topuzyan, in her turn, noticed that the annual Olympiad could be considered as one of the best accomplishments of the Chair, but in the current year it was carrying a special message, as the high-school students were to be introduced with the 100-year-old history of the University with an opportunity to list through the best pages of that history.
“The Olympiad contributed to the development and establishment of the schoolchildren. Many of them were able to independently find and correctly use the necessary information, as well as learned not only to more carefully observe the educational environment they were surrounded by, to see and to feel the conflict situations in a school life, but also to think of and to suggest ways to solve or prevent them”, Professor Topuzyan mentioned and proudly noted that the high-school children loved their homeland, their mother tongue, the school and the teachers.
According to the results of the Olympiad, the first honorary prize was awarded to the tenth-grade student of the School after Tigran Abrahamyan in Martuni Edita Oseyan, the second prize went to the tenth-grade student of the School N184 Vardan Umbroyan, and the third prize went to the high-school student from Vayq Nelly Araqelyan. What is more, the winner of the first prize Edita Oseyan has in fact been admitted to the Pedagogical University.
The high-school students clearly shared with their vision of a 21st century teacher, apt at technologies, and as someone, who would collaborate with pupils and understand pupils’ psychology, a developed, smart, well-rounded, explorative, person, endowed with highly human features, and keeping up with the time.
To conclude, just as professor Aida Topuzyan noticed, the image of the 21st century teacher could be well portrayed by summarizing the students’ presentations.
“Today, we learnt something from one another, you shared with what you need, what kind of teachers you would like to have. You are the future of our country, and you are the ones, who should build the tomorrow for Armenia”, she said.
