Teachers of the Armenian Diaspora are Discovering their Homeland

The Pedagogical University continues providing training sessions for 61 teachers of the Armenian Diaspora from 15 countries.

According to the visit programme, in addition to learning and educational elements, cultural events, meetings, tours and sightseeing around the beautiful landscapes of our country were planned for the participants.

In the course of the previous week the teachers of the Armenian Diaspora had a meeting with modern authors at the Writers Union of Armenia. The President of the Writers Union Edward Militonyan greeted the teachers and thanked them for choosing this non-profit and difficult work. Likewise, he spoke about literature written in a foreign language and was sorry to notice that the number of those written in Armenian had decreased.

“Seems like the older generation is carrying that responsibility, while many of the young ones mostly don’t write in Armenian. Thus, the writer-teacher cooperation should permanently exist. And now I’m thinking- are teachers guilty? I keep thinking, but cannot find the answers. In this sense, the role of the children literature is immense to bring the child closer to the main source and to drink some water from the native river”, mentioned Edward Militonyan and advised to the teachers of the Armenian Diaspora to feed their pupils with the Armenian literature and culture, so that we are able to survive anywhere. Besides, he particularly highlighted the importance for the Director of the “Spyurk” [Diaspora] Research Centre, the Head of the Chair of the Armenian Modern and New Literature and its Teaching Matters, Professor Souren Danielyan to permanently keep in touch with teachers; he also looked forward to these meetings being of continuous nature.

Later on, the writers also welcomed the teachers’ among them were Rouben Maroukhyan, the Editor of the “Tsitsernak” [Swallow] Children’s paper Anush Vardanyan, Hakob Harutyunyan, Khachik Manoukyan and others emphasizing the great role of teachers. Professor Suren Danielyan in his turn expressed acknowledgements to the writers, who welcome the teachers having joined from various parts of the world.

“With these meetings they are getting familiariesed with one another, they evaluate the modern Armenian literature and their authors.

In addition, in the course of the meetings the teachers also welcomed the representatives of the virtual college of the Armenian General Charity Union, who introduced the key areas of their activities and projects, and marked cooperation edges.

On these days the teachers also visited the prominent Armenian filmmaker Sergey Parajanov’s house –museum, visited the “Zangak” publishing bookstore, went to the concert of the state dance ensemble at the Opera Theater, watched the “Let’s Dream” performance at the National [Hamazgayin] Theater.

Similarly, visiting various picturesque sights of Armenia is particularly memorable for the teachers coming from 15 countries; during this period they went to the Saghmosavank, Ohanavank, Amberd, Noravank and Tatev monastic complexes.

Last but not least, various meetings are also organised for teachers of Armenian Diaspora until 27 July; on 21 July they will visit His Holiness Karekin II the Catholicos of all Armenians; and on 22 July they will be having a meeting with the President of the Pedagogical University Board, Mr. Davit Gyurjinyan.
