The favourite musician Armen Tutunjyan, who was at the basis of bringing jazz to Armenia, passed away at the age of 73.
He was born in Yerevan on 28 January 1944. From 1986-1992 he played at the State Pop Orchestra headed by Konsnatin Orbelyan.
In 1992, together with a group of young musicians, he founded the band “Chico and Friends” which included a number of famous jazzmen of the country; the band is performing until now.
He was an Honoured Art Figure of Armenia, Associate Professor at the Yerevan Conservatory. Besides, he was also reading lectures at the Pedagogical University’s Faculty of Culture, Chair of Music.
In addition, the musician is considered to be the founder of academic teaching of playing the percussion instruments in Armenia.
The work and memory of Armen Tutunjyan will stay eternal in the hearts of his art lovers.
The Pedagogical University is passing their deepest condolences to the friends, relatives and fans of the beloved musician. Armen Tutunjyan’s funeral will be held at St. Hovhannes Church on 10 June.
