The Great Enlightener smiles through the eternal sun

"This forge of science, which is the primary artery of the nation and the salt of life, stands out with rich experience of over one century and the miracle of creation. The Pedagogical University ‘forges’ people who are in the first ranks like devoted soldiers, who can break the cold periods of life with their warmth, enlighten the lives of generations with their inner rays. The University, that has extensive experience, original manifestations of advanced pedagogical thought, is a chain of enlightened activities. They always keep in mind the ultimate goal of passing on the knowledge [to future generations] through innovative methods." This opinion was voiced by teachers of School N1 after Khachatur Abovyan located in Armenia's Abovyan city. Many of them are graduates of ASPU.

On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the University, the teachers visited their Alma Mater to convey that bright idea which was forged in the pedagogical forge named after the Great Enlightener [Grigor Lusavorich].

"Armenian Language and Literature," "Armenian History," "Geography" and "History of Art:" by combining a number of school subjects, the schoolchildren and teachers presented a theatrical performance which included Khachatur Abovyan's years of study atthe University of Dorpat, the eduator's reflections of that period, his memoirs, the aesthetic and inspiring aspect of his daily life.

It was no accident that the open lesson was held on April 2. The Great Illuminator disappeared on the night of April 1. As the participants noted in their speeches ‘historiography, which is usually generous, was quite stingy this time. There are many hypotheses and versions but the truth about his disappearance remains unknown.

Karmile Arakelyan, Principal of High School N1 after Khachatur Abovyan, a graduate of the Pedagogical University, was proud to say that teachers who today have extensive experience ‘studied within these walls’ and later took on the humble but eternal job of a teacher. “We are the generation of the great educator who undertook the mission of enlightening his nation, who devoted himself to his work with fervent enthusiasm, who was not stopped even by persecution. The diplomatic genius of Mashtots, the patriotic fire of Khorenatsi and the prayer of Narekatsi ,all combined in Abovyan, have been passed on to the generations, who are obliged to keep the relics of the national soul alive in the generations to come,” Karmile Arakelyan said when congratulating ASPU and the teaching staff. She wished them to always feel the joy of reaching new heights in education. “Train eagles that are used to winds and teach them the secrets of soaring freely in the blue sky, just the way you have done for almost a century,” she added.

The principal of High School N1 after Khachatur Abovyan thanked the ASPU leadership, particularly the Chair of Pedagogy for their continued support and cooperation.

On behalf of ASPU lecturers and students, ASPU Rector, Professor Srbuhi Gevorgyan, thanked everyone for organizing the unique event, assuring the attendees that the institutions named after the Great Enlightener will continue to collaborate effectively. “Throughout its history of one hundred years, the University has had one mission: to train highly qualified pedagogues with great values. The performance, with its sublime manifestations, cognitive and emotional elements, had a positive impact on the social behaviour of the presentees,” she said.

Later on, The heads of educational institutions gave one another symbolic gifts.

Head of the Chair of Pedagogy, Professor Aida Topuzyan considered the integrated open lesson to be a success, emphasizing that it was the graduates' report to their Alma Mater. The professor is sure that when one sets his mind and soul to something, he will definitely succeed. It is the same wit teachers.

“Whoever has not seen Armenia, will want to see it once they get to know Abovyan. Khachatur is a piece of Armenia who has its wholeness in him. And ever since, a divine light has been reflected from the top of eternal Ararat in the heart of Yerevan, right in the place where in 1922 the skillful masters laid the foundation stone of the pedagogical institute. Since then, the Great Enlightener has been smiling through the eternal sun, seeing that his heart beats in a worthy place, said the junior ASPU representatives.
