The RF Ambassador Visited the Pedagogical

Today, the Pedagogical University welcomed the Russian Ambassador to Armenia Sergey Kopirkin, the Director of the Russian Centre of Science and Culture in Yerevan Sergey Ribinski, and other representatives of the Embassy.

The guests visited the University Museum, got familiarised with the ASPU history and chronology, after which they had a meeting with the faculty and students of the University.

Rector Rouben Mirzakhanyan greeted the Ambassador on his visit to the Mother Pedagogical University and wished him effective work. The Rector expressed his hope that the relations of both countries would be further strengthened and would record outstanding results.

“We treat trainings with great responsibility despite the fact that other universities of Armenia also offer training programmes to prepare teachers of Russian language. Around 75% of the ASPU applicants come from regions and upon graduation they return and teach in their regional schools, which is, in fact, a great responsibility”, Rector Mirzakhanyan noted.

Likewise, he highlighted that for already many years the Pedagogical University had an effective cooperation experience with a number of Russian institutions, including the Pushkin State Russian Language Institute, the Moscow State Psychological and Pedagogical University, and the State Pedagogical University, as well as the Saint Petersburg Economic University, the Herzen State Pedagogical University of Russia, and other higher educational institutions.

Furthermore, Rouben Mirzakhanyan spoke about the “Summer School” international project within the framework of which student exchange among the abovementioned universities was organised.

“Cooperation with Russian universities has is a significant practice for us particularly in terms of improving the quality of teaching Russian language”, added the Rector.

In his turn, the Ambassador Sergey Kopirkin greeted the attendants and mentioned how impressed he was with the visit to the ASPU Museum. “I am happy to observe the Armenian-Russian cooperation throughout the years and our joint historical past. As well as, I am thankful that you preserve the history of our joint journey at the Museum.”

Moreover, the Ambassador outlined the importance of establishing new scope of interest in the new reality, presenting mutual benefits and making efforts of forming successful cooperation.

“I would like to highlight the effectiveness of teaching Russian language at the Armenian schools together with the issues of development and dissemination thereof. I have visited a number of universities and schools, got familiarised with the concerns they were bothered with. There are a lot of problems but as the practice has shown they can be resolved in the result of efficient cooperation. All we need to do is search for new mechanisms and methods for the solution of those problems”, mentioned the Ambassador and added that opposite to other universities, the graduates of the Pedagogical University mainly came from regions and after graduation they would return and teach at their birth cities and towns, and that was very important from the perspective of improving the quality of teaching Russian Language and Literature in regions.

According to Sergey Kopirkin, his mission is to support and to maintain by joint efforts all that has been purchased as a result of cooperation.

The meeting with the Ambassador continued in a Q&A format; the lecturers asked questions that interested them most, after which the students, who had visited the universities of Russia within the scope of the “Summer School” international project, shared with their impressions.

At the end, the Rector thanked for the visit and assured that the ASPU was aiming to give new breath and quality to the cooperation in the Armenian-Russian higher educational sector.
